The National Resource Center for The First-Year Experience and Students in Transition (www.sc.edu/fye) at the University of South Carolina is seeking an energetic, innovative, flexible, and thoughtful individual to serve as the Assistant Director for Research and Grants.
The position has primary responsibility for the development, management, and expansion of the research activities of the National Resource Center as an integrated part of a Center-wide program of initiatives to assist educators to improve student learning and transitions into and through higher education. To that end, the Assistant Director for Research and Grants oversees the ongoing original research agenda of the Center; identifies, pursues, and manages external funding efforts to support and expand the Center’s research agenda; serves as managing editor of the Journal for The First-Year Experience and Students in Transition; coordinates the Paul P. Fidler Research grant solicitation and award process and other grants sponsored by the National Resource Center; and contributes to the assessment activities of the Center. All work is done under the guidance and supervision of the Executive Director of the Center and requires frequent collaboration with other Assistant Directors and Center staff. Minimum qualifications include a PhD or ABD in higher education, social research methodology, or related field (e.g., educational policy, sociology, psychology, and public policy) and proven experience with quantitative methodology. Preferred candidates also will exhibit strong analytical skills, supervisory experience, editorial skills, experience managing original research projects, comfort with qualitative research, and a background conducting research in the fields of higher education, college student development and success, and the first-year experience and students in transition. Successful candidates will also possess strong attention to detail, accuracy, and strong written and oral communication skills.
