Subject: Jaroslav (Jerry) Kautsky (1933-2021)

It with great sadness that I report the passing of Jaroslav (Jerry)
Kautsky on 10 February 2021 in Adelaide, South Australia. Jerry made
great contributions to numerical linear algebra, orthogonal
polynomials and problems associated with image registration and blur
invariants.

He will be greatly missed.

positions to work either at the Institute of Mathematics, Statistics
and Scientific Computing, IMECC (https://www.ime.unicamp.br/en) of The
University of Campinas, Unicamp (www.unicamp.br/index.php/english),
Campinas, SP, Brazil, or at the Institute of Mathematics ans
Statistics, IME (https://www.ime.usp.br/en) of the University of Sao

electricity markets); convex optimization and extensions to data
science; sequential optimality conditions, and methods for Nash
equilibrium. The candidate must have a PhD in Applied Mathematics,
Computer Science, Engineering, or in a related field. The candidate
must have finished the PhD less than seven years before the beginning
of the PD fellowship. The candidate should demonstrate a solid
background in nonlinear optimization. Experience in programming is
highly desirable. The candidate is expected to interact with other
members of the project including, masters and PhD students, and
professors of the team. The post-doctoral fellowship includes a
monthly stipend of R$ 7.373,10 (about USD 1,400 - enough for the
comfortable maintenance of a single person in Campinas or Sao Paulo),
access to the health-care system of Unicamp, and research contingency
funds (15% of the annual value of the fellowship, each year). For more
details, check out FAPESP's webpage http://www.fapesp.br/en/5427.

To apply, the candidate must send the following documents by email
until March 30, 2021: Curriculum vitae with a list of publications,

Subject: Postdoc Positions, Eindhoven Univ of Technology (TU/e)

The Centre for Analysis, Scientific Computing and Applications (CASA)
at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) is inviting
applications for postdoctoral researcher positions within the project
"DIMENSION", an inter-disciplinary project funded by the ERC and by
TU/e.

We are a multi-disciplinary, international research team developing
data- driven computational methods to accelerate the simulation,
optimisation and inverse analysis of systems governed by parametrized
partial differential equations (PDEs). This particular project deals
with the development of dimension reduction methods to accelerate the
assimilation of data into models and the optimal design of
experiments, particularly for multi-scale materials. Candidates must
therefore have a strong background and interest in working at the
interface of numerical analysis, data science, and computational
engineering. Prior experience in programming numerical methods is
expected. The initial appointment will be for one year with the
possibility of extension, depending on performance.

Applications should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae,
transcript(s) of records, lists of publications and presentations, the
contact information of at least two references, and a one-page
statement describing the applicant's current research work &
interests. Interested candidates should apply by sending all relevant
documents in a single PDF file. Please send complete applications and
address any inquiries to Prof. Karen Veroy- Grepl at . Applications
submitted by 31 March 2021 will receive full consideration, but the
search will remain open until the position is filled.
