Date: December 04, 2019
Subject: New Book, An Introduction to Compressed Sensing
Compressed sensing is a relatively recent area of research that has
applications to signal/image processing and computer algorithms, and
it draws from a variety of mathematical techniques such as graph
theory, probability theory, linear algebra, and optimization. The
author presents significant concepts never before discussed as well as
new advances in the theory, providing an in-depth initiation to the
field of compressed sensing. The text contains substantial material on
graph theory and the design of binary measurement matrices, is the
only book to thoroughly study the problem of matrix recovery, and
supplies relevant results alongside their proofs in a compact and
streamlined presentation that is easy to navigate.

Subject: New Book, Approximation Theory and Approximation Practice, Extended Edition
This is a textbook on classical polynomial and rational approximation
theory for the twenty-first century. Aimed at advanced undergraduates
and graduate students across all of applied mathematics, it uses
MATLAB to teach the field's most important ideas and results. It
differs fundamentally from other works on the topic in that its
emphasis is on topics close to numerical algorithms; concepts are
illustrated with Chebfun; and each chapter is a PUBLISHable MATLAB
M-file, available online.

Spectral Methods Using Multivariate Polynomials on the Unit Ball
Kendall Atkinson, David Chien, Olaf Hansen
Chapman & Hall/CRC Press, 2019
This book is a research level text on a numerical method for the
solution of partial differential equations. The authors introduce,
illustrate with examples, and analyze 'spectral methods' that are
based on multivariate polynomial approximations. The method presented
is an alternative to finite element and difference methods for regions
that are diffeomorphic to the unit disk, in two dimensions, and the
unit ball, in three dimensions.

water quality, watershed characteristics obtained from several federal
sources including the DOE, USGS, NOAA, USDA, EPA. Analyze data and
extract patterns using statistical, wavelet, classification, or other
data mining methods. Research and develop machine learning approaches
for data-driven modeling of water quality. We are seeking candidates
with a strong background in Earth science informatics, computational,
or data sciences, with demonstrated experience in data analysis and
data-driven modeling. For full description and to apply please visit:
