Subject: New Book, Piecewise Affine Control
Piecewise Affine Control: Continuous-Time, Sampled-Data, and
Networked Systems
By Luis Rodrigues, Behzad Samadi, and Miad Moarref
This book targets controller design for piecewise affine systems,
fulfilling both performance and stability requirements. It presents a
unified computational methodology for the analysis and synthesis of
piecewise affine controllers, and introduces algorithms that will be
applicable to nonlinear systems approximated by piecewise affine
systems. Examples from several areas are featured.

Professorship in Computational PDEs
Position Description: The Department of Mathematics at Tufts
University is seeking a term-limited Norbert Wiener Assistant
Professorship in Computational Partial Differential Equations (PDEs)
to begin September 1, 2020. The initial contract is for one year and
is renewable for up to two more years. We welcome candidates with a

challenges common to models used in physics, mathematics and, more
generally, in the numerical simulation and analysis of physical
phenomena. The successful candidate will be expected to join current
interdisciplinary research within the Department in the fields of
Scientific Computing and Computational Applied Mathematics. This
includes application areas such as the simulation of flow in porous
media, computational fluid dynamics, electromagnetic materials, and
spectral graph algorithms to name a few.
Qualifications: A Ph.D. in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics or a
closely related field, evidence of excellent teaching, and promise of
strong research are required.
Application Requirements: Applications should include a cover letter,
curriculum vitae, research statement, and teaching statement, which
should all be submitted through

Subject: New Journal, Journal of Machine Learning for Modeling and Computing
The Journal of Machine Learning for Modeling and Computing (JMLMC),
published by Begell House, is now online and accepting submissions.
www.j-mlmc.com
Aims and Scope: The Journal of Machine Learning for Modeling and
Computing (JMLMC) focuses on the study of machine learning methods for
modeling and scientific computing. The scope of the journal includes,
but is not limited to, research of the following types: (1) the use of
machine learning techniques to model real-world problems such as
physical systems, social sciences, biology, etc.; (2) the development
of novel numerical strategies, in conjunction of machine learning
methods, to facilitate practical computation; and (3) the fundamental
mathematical and numerical analysis for understanding machine learning
methods.
JMLMC is operated on deadlines. For each publishing issue there is a
submission deadline. Papers submitted before the deadline will be
considered for the current issues (otherwise for the next issue). All
submitted papers will be receive the official decision prior to the
decision deadline, which is set as 3 months after the submission
