Students of all majors with excellent math skills are invited to
participate in the Putnam Competition.
The Putnam competition takes place all over the US and Canada, but is
locally proctored, and takes place the 1st Saturday of December (Dec 07
this year), in a morning and an afternoon session of 3 hours each.
More information is available at
https://www.maa.org/math-competitions/putnam-competition.
Please send email to me ([log in to unmask]) to express your interest, or
if you have further questions.
There is also the opportunity to take part in the Virginia Tech Regional
Math contest (conceived as a warmup for the Putnam competition). It is
likewise locally proctored and will be offered this upcoming Saturday
(Oct 26) in the morning. Please let me know likewise (and asap) if you'd
like to participate in this competition. (And if you need to commute to
campus, but have difficulty doing so b/c of the home game parking
restrictions, let me know so I can organize a ride.
There is still the opportunity to gather for studying some training
problems for Putnam. Let me know if you are interested.
