Dear undergraduates,
One of our former undergraduate students (Sustainability major), Tyler Hounshell, received the Highly Commended recognition for his undergraduate research in the Global Undergraduate Awards (https://undergraduateawards.com/). I just checked that UT joined The Global Undergraduate Awards network in 2015, and became an official partner in 2017. Please check the following link for detail: https://undergraduateawards.com/news/university-of-tennessee-knoxville-increases-their-submissions-2.
I think it is a great place to submit your undergraduate research.
Philip

Subject: Undergraduate Awards Winner
Dear Professor Li,
I don’t know if you remember me or not, but my name is Tyler Hounshell. I was in your GIS for Terrain Analysis course in the Fall semester of 2018. I stayed late a lot to work in the lab. My final project for your class focused on Knoxville’s urban canopy cover. On a whim, I submitted my project to the Undergraduate Awards, and I just found out that it has been highly commended (top 10%) out of over 3,437 submissions in the Earth & Environmental Sciences category.
I just wanted to let you know that piece of information. I also believe UTK will doing a short writeup on me and some of the other winners from the university. Please be on the lookout for that! Also know that I am indebted to you for your mentorship on this project and in furthering my GIS skills in general. I really learned a lot in your class, and I just want to say big Thank You! This is such a huge honor and I just had to share it with you and the department.
I hope this email finds you well, and I’ve attached the official letter from the Undergraduate Awards organization. You’ll always be one of my favorite professors. I wish you all the best.
Sincerely,
Tyler
