Subject: BLIS 0.5.2 now available

We are pleased to announce BLIS 0.5.2, made possible in part thanks to
contributions from the community as well as funding from NSF and
industry.

BLIS is a software framework for rapidly instantiating high-
performance BLAS-like dense linear algebra operations. Aside from
being a developer's tool, the framework also allows end-users to build
libraries that implement a superset of the BLAS, which can be called
via conventional BLAS-like or object APIs, or via standard BLAS
interfaces. (An optional CBLAS API is also available.)

BLIS 0.5.2 provides optimized kernel support across a variety of
microarchitectures, including Intel's Haswell/Broadwell/Skylake, AMD's
Ryzen/Epyc, and ARMv7/ARMv8. Intel's AVX-512 instruction set is also
supported for Skylake-X and Knights Landing.

Our most exciting recent development is a new Performance webpage that
showcases single-threaded and multithreaded performance of BLIS and
other implementations of BLAS for a representative set of datatypes
and level-3 operations on a variety of many-core architectures,
including Marvell ThunderX2, Intel Skylake-X, Intel Haswell, and AMD
Epyc [1].

For other links to code, documentation, mailing lists, publications,
and related information, please visit the BLIS github website [2].

Title: Numerical methods for treatment of singularities in complex
flows of complex fluids
Supervisor: Cassio M. Oishi

Job Description/ Requirements: This proposal sets out a research plan
to investigate a hierarchical set of model equations that describe
complex viscoelastic materials. Such fluids can be found in many
industrial applications, as for instance problems involving process of
plastic, oils, chemicals, foods and minerals. An important application
of viscoelastic materials in complex geometries is related to the
extrusion problem (or die swell) referred to as a die in polymer
processing. In particular, in this type of flow there is a classical
difficulty due to the stress singularity in the changing of the
boundary conditions. The simulation of viscoelastic fluids with
singularities presents challenges related to the accuracy, stability
and convergence. Moreover, the presence of boundary layers can modify
the solution of the problem in certain regions of the domain. In this
way, this project is to focus on the improvements on the construction
of numerical strategies using the asymptotic knowledge of viscoelastic
stress singularity. The problems analysed will be defined in confined
geometries, such as contraction and cross-slot flows, and with free
surfaces, like stick-slip and extrudate swell. The development of this
project will involve a synergy of the CEPID supervisor in numerical
simulations with the expertise of a collaborator from the University
of Bath-UK in asymptotic methods. Candidates must hold a doctoral
degree in Applied Mathematics, or in a related area, with experience
in simulation of viscolastic flows and asymptotic methods for the
solution of these problems.

Interested candidates should e-mail a CV and two letters of
recommendation from university professors as soon as possible to:
