New course in Fall 2019:
Overview of data science (MATH 499, TR 9:40-10:55am)
Students, a new course “Overview of data science” is offered this coming
Fall 2019 semester. Many of you are getting close to finishing your
studies and probably are looking forward starting working. No matter
what you studied at the University, pure or applied math, biology or
engineering, your future job is very likely to involve working with
data. This class will provide basic skills of ways data analyses can be
performed and results of such analyses accurately presented. The course
will teach how to use programming language R for data processing, data
analysis, and data visualization. There is no need for prior background
in programming because all basic skills will be taught in the class
(computer lab).
This course in listed in the math department (MATH 499) and does count
towards 42 upper division hours in the College of Arts and Sciences.
Microbiology concentration students will be able to use this course to
satisfy the upper level requirements for the concentration. Students in
other majors or concentrations need to contact their departmental
advisers to inquire about counting the course towards the concentration.
If you have any questions regarding the course and its planned format,
please contact the course Instructor, Vitaly V. Ganusov ([log in to unmask])
