Subject: Soft Computing, Iran, Nov 2017

The Second National & First International Conference on Soft Computing
(CSC 2017), will take place in Rudsar, Iran, from 22-23 November 2017.
CSC 2017 is organized by the University of Guilan with the cooperation
of the Iranian society of intelligent systems and Iranian fuzzy
systems society with the support of the ministry of science, research
and technology of Iran. Soft Computing is a set of new computational
methods in computer science, artificial intelligence, machine
learning, statistical calculations and many other application fields
are applicable. All these research areas require investigation,
modeling and analysis of complex phenomena that common scientific
approaches have not been efficient to provide straightforward and
thorough solutions. Hereby, all university lecturers, researchers and
students are invited to participate in this conference by presenting
their latest research achievements and increase the scientific quality
of the conference. Submitted conference papers will be blind peer
reviewed by three competent reviewers. All accepted papers will be
published in reviewed conference proceedings. The conference
proceedings book and certificate of presentation will be distributed
to the conference participants at the conference registration desk.
Based on the decision of the scientific committee, selected
high-impact full-text papers will also be considered for the special
journal issues indexed by ISI, ICS and Scopus.

Authors are invited to contribute to the conference by submitting
articles in the following areas, but are not limited to the following
topics: Fuzzy Logic; Optimization Algorithms; Artificial Neural
Networks; Metaheuristic Algorithms; Intelligent Systems; Big Data
Technologies; Decision Tree Learning; Association Rule Learning;
Support Vector Machines; Deep Learning; Reinforcement Learning;
Bayesian models and methods; Data Mining; Applications of Soft
Computing.

Subject: Director Position, Operations Research Program, NC State

North Carolina State University (NC State) is seeking a visionary,
innovative and progressive leader to serve as the Director of the
Operations Research Graduate Program (OR). The interdisciplinary NC
State OR Graduate Program (https://www.or.ncsu.edu/) is a vibrant and
nationally recognized graduate program established in 1970. It is a
joint graduate program shared by the College of Engineering and the
College of Sciences at NC State University. The faculty who teach OR
courses, supervise OR students, and administer the program have their
academic appointments in over 20 departments, not only in the colleges
of engineering and sciences but also in the colleges of management,
forestry, and textiles. The program offers three graduate degrees: the
Master of Operations Research (MOR) degree, the Master of Science
(MSc) degree in Operations Research, and the Doctor of Philosophy
(Ph.D.) degree in Operations Research.

NC State University is one of the pillars of the Research Triangle
Park (RTP) region of North Carolina, which is an active scientific and
industrial hub. The region is also home to the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill and Duke University, both of whom are
collaborating partners with strong faculty and programs in Operations
Research and related areas, and other universities, medical schools,
government organizations, and other partners. The RTP area nurtures a
vibrant start-up environment and IBM, Cisco, SAS, Red Hat are just a
few examples of established companies whose presence also offers
possibilities of industry collaborations, student internships and
eventual employment for graduates.

The Director will formulate and guide the strategic and tactical
vision and direction of the program and is responsible for leading all
aspects of the OR program. The successful candidate should be
internationally recognized as a leader in the field of operations
research; exhibit in-depth knowledge of emerging research areas and
teaching needs; have a strong track record of developing and
implementing innovative research and education programs and attracting
external funding; and have experience building internal (across
departments and colleges) and external partnerships. The successful
candidate should demonstrate the ability to administer a diverse
program and must have excellent leadership, mentoring, and
communication skills and promotion of a positive work environment.

The director position reports to the Deans of the Colleges of
Engineering and Sciences. The position's focus includes advancement of
an innovative research and academic vision for the OR program,
management of OR- related teaching activities by the numerous
OR-affiliated faculty, and coordination of students in the OR graduate
program. The ideal candidate is expected to qualify for appointment at
the level of a tenured Professor and, in addition to serving as
Director, to remain active in research and teaching.

Subject: IMA Theoretical and Computational Discrete Mathematics, UK, Sep 2018

Friday 14 - Saturday 15 September 2018, The Enterprise Centre,
University of Derby

Discrete mathematics poses a wide range of challenging research
problems, giving rise to important applications in other fields such
as computer science, engineering, industry, business, finance and the
physical/biological sciences. It is a dynamic subject in which
techniques, theories and algorithms are drawn from many different
areas, and it offers a diverse and stimulating environment for those
whose work lies within it. This is a relatively new area that the IMA
is pleased to support through a second event of its kind at the
University of Derby. The conference will showcase theoretical and
computational advances in the general field of discrete
mathematics. It is open to researchers working with mathematical
structures and abstract constructs, and to those involved in the
theory and practise of discrete algorithmic computing. The purpose of
this event is to highlight progress in the field through the
development of novel theories, methodologies and applications
accordingly, and to inspire future work.

Abstracts of up to 500 words are invited to be submitted for either
oral or poster presentation via https://my.ima.org.uk by Friday 13
April 2018, in areas including, but not limited to, the following:
Theoretical Computer Science (Algorithms, Automata, Codes,
Cryptography, Image Processing, Logic Gates and Circuits); Number
Theory (Computational, Elementary, Additive, Combinatorial); Set
Relations, Orderings, Words, Permutation Patterns Graph Theory and
Network Problems; Number Sequences, Arithmetic Functions and
Partitions; Combinatorics (Algorithmic, Algebraic, Analytic,
Enumerative, Extremal, Probabilistic, Topological, Geometric, Theory
of Designs, Matroids, Percolation); Optimization (Discrete,
Combinatorial) and Game Theory Operations Research.
