Winter Snow Ranger Positions To Be Advertised Soon
The Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest anticipates hiring two (2) temporary, seasonal (1039 hr.) positions for the 2018 winter field season, through the USAJOBS hiring system (https://www.usajobs.gov <http://usda.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=18a3ff5c1a600792ee2bbb48d&id=8cb8cce7f7&e=bdc0d250bf> ). The following provides a brief description of the positions that may be available on the Forest, as well as contact information for supervisors.

These positions will be responsible for monitoring winter recreation activities from January through April on National Forest Lands. Planning and performing winter patrols of recommended wilderness and wilderness boundaries utilizing snowmobile, skis, or snow shoes to ensure compliance with winter recreation regulations, and other duties as assigned. Successful applicants will need to be able to interact with the public, be comfortable with winter cross country travel with the use of snowmobiles, skis or snowshoes. A strong working knowledge of winter camping skills is required. Applicants will have the ability to safely operate snowmobiles in difficult and steep terrain, move and reposition snowmobiles in deep snow, load/unload snowmobiles from trailers, and perform basic snowmobile maintenance, etc.
NOTE: Applicants will have or obtain the Minimum Level I American Avalanche Association or equivalent certification prior to monitoring activities. In addition, First Aid and CPR certification is required to perform duties. A valid driver’s license is required to drive motor vehicles.
These positions will have a Duty Station of Island Park, Idaho. Forest Service housing is available.
These positions require physical exertion while working in rough terrain, in a full range of weather conditions. Work week schedules may vary but will typically be 10 hours a day Friday through Monday and may require working some holidays.
