The starting hiring range is $42,868.80 to $51,438.40 annually.
Provides Children's services in a welcoming branch; does related work as required. May
be called upon to assist department manager with system-wide initiatives. Reports
directly to the Children's Services Manager.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
Provides reader's advisory and reference services to patrons of all ages;
Plans, organizes, publicizes, and conducts programs for children, including outreach to
schools and neighborhood groups;
Maintains branch children's collection;
Serves at single service Information Desk;
Responsible for hiring, training, and evaluation of Children's Department staff;
May be called upon to assist with general branch or departmental duties.
Education, Experience and Skills:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Possession of an M.L.S. degree (Masters of Library Science) from an ALA accredited
school is required.
- Must have knowledge of children's literature and general reference sources.
- Strong public service orientation and some previous experience working with children
is required.
- Must be familiar with automated systems and electronic resources including
databases and the Internet and have experience with Microsoft Office software.
- Must have supervisory experience which includes the hiring, training and evaluation of
staff.
Special Requirements:
- Applicant must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including evenings to 9:00 p.m.,
Saturdays and Sundays in rotation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Every Child Ready to Read or other Early Literacy initiatives and
experience with STEM programming preferred.
Physical Conditions & Work Contacts:
Ability to push book trucks, equipment and lift up to 30 pounds. Contacts would include
supervisor, department and branch managers, library staff, children, school teachers, and
the general public. May be required to work a flexible schedule, to include evenings and
weekends.
