The CCIMI accommodates research activity on fundamental mathematical
problems and methodology for understanding, analysing, processing and
simulating data. Data science research at the highest international
level is undertaken at the institute, aiming to extract the relevant
information from large- and high-dimensional data with a predictable
certainty. The advance of data science and the solution of big data
questions heavily relies on fundamental mathematical techniques and in
particular, their intra-disciplinary engagement. This is at the heart
of the Institute, involving mathematical expertise ranging from
statistics, applied and computational analysis, to topology and
discrete geometry - all with the common goal of advancing data science
questions. For more information on the CCIMI, including information
on the range of exciting and interesting projects which are underway
or suggested for future research, please visit our website,
www.ccimi.maths.cam.ac.uk . To further the world class work of the
institute we are seeking highly motivated candidates for up to 6 PhD
studentships, to commence in October 2017. The scheme is open to
nationals from all countries and PhD Studentships offered will be
fully funded (to include University Composition Fees and maintenance
for the duration of your course to RCUK minimum level). The apply for
a studentship at the CCIMI, please enter an application for a standard
PhD either at DAMTP, DPMMS or CCA via the University's Graduate
Admissions website (http://www.graduate.study.cam.ac.uk/how-
do-i-apply); and also send an expression of interest letter to grad-
[log in to unmask] and [log in to unmask] explaining why
you are interested in this studentship. All applications and
expressions of interest must be received by midnight 15th January 2017.

Further information can be found at www.maths.cam.ac.uk/cantab-capital-
institute-mathematics-information. Please contact grad-
[log in to unmask] and [log in to unmask] for any
enquiries about the applications process and/or the CCIMI.

The University values diversity and is committed to equality of
opportunity. The University has a responsibility to ensure that all
employees are eligible to live and work in the UK.

Subject: Summer Positions, Center for Computing Research, Sandia National Labs

The Center for Computing Research (CCR) at Sandia National Lab
Laboratories seeks multiple students to participate in collaborative
res research across a wide range of areas in computer science, applied
mathematics, discrete mathematics, mathematical modeling, co
computational science and engineering, computational neuroscience an
and cognitive science (including cognitive and experimental
psychology, neuroscience, and linguistics). Possible research areas
include a advanced computer architectures, systems software,
programming languages and paradigms, networks, informatics and
information sciences, combinatorial mathematics, discrete event
simulation, scalable linear and nonlinear solvers, continuous and
discrete optimization, uncertainty quantification, statistics,
multiscale methods and mathematics, multiphysics modeling,
visualization, visual cognition, meshing, cybersecurity, advanced
modeling and simulation, human decision modeling, machine learning,
brain inspired computing and assessing human performance. Students
are also sought with interests in applying computational methods to
scientific and engineering applications including shock physics,
molecular dynamics, MHD, CFD, electrical systems, MEMS, and climate
science. These student internships are for motivated and enthusiastic
individuals with excellent communication skills and who have the
desire to gain research experience in a highly collaborative research
environment. Successful applicants will be exposed to a wide range of
computational and/or cognitive research at Sandia and will have a
strong project-based research experience working directly with Sandia
staff scientists.

To access the posting, go to http://www.sandia.gov, click on "Careers"
then click on then click on "View All Jobs" and search for the job
opening number 655152 for graduate students and 655153 for
undergraduates. Applications should include a CV and a cover letter
describing the area that they would like to gain research experience.
