Student Success Librarian
The University Library at California State University, Dominguez Hills
(CSUDH) seeks an innovative, energetic, and service-minded tenure-track,
12-month Student Success Librarian to collaborate with librarians, faculty,
and other campus partners on programs that support student success.
Responsibilities
The Student Success Librarian will build relationships with both academic
and non-academic units across campus in order to raise awareness about the
various ways that the library can serve as an essential partner in
facilitating the success of undergraduate students. The successful candidate
will serve as the library’s liaison to all CSUDH first-year programs,
including the First-Year Experience Program, the Transfer Learning
Community, the Early Start Program, the First-Year Seminar, as well as other
university student success programs. The Student Success Librarian will also
coordinate the library's presence at campus orientations and new student
events. Responsibilities include teaching information literacy sessions and
workshops for courses and programs focused on first-year and transfer
students, promoting first-year and transfer student success and retention
through collaboration with the campus’ various retention programs, designing
and preparing instructional and outreach materials to engage diverse user
groups, participating in assessment efforts designed to facilitate the
continuous improvement of student learning and engagement, and providing
in-person and online research assistance in a range of disciplines. In
addition, library faculty members are expected to engage in scholarship and
service to the university and the profession.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
• Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited
institution or an appropriate equivalent.
• Demonstrated knowledge of trends, methods and best practices in
undergraduate student engagement and success.
• Ability to effectively participate in the library’s liaison program in the
areas of research consultation, instruction, and outreach.
• Leadership ability, strong problem-solving skills, and commitment to
continuous learning.
• Ability to manage projects and multiple tasks while meeting deadlines and
solving problems in a rapidly changing environment.
• A positive attitude, excellent interpersonal and oral and written
communication skills, and the ability to work effectively and collegially
with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
• Evidence of energy, creativity, initiative and commitment to professional
growth
• Ability to achieve tenure through effective job performance and scholarly
and service activities.
• Experience working with undergraduates from diverse age, socioeconomic,
cultural, and academic backgrounds.

The CSUDH University Library fosters student success, scholarly research,
and academic excellence through provision of user-centered services,
collaborations, and learning experiences. We value out-of-the box thinking,

The services of the University Library are housed in a 140,000 square foot,
five story, energy-efficient addition completed in 2010. The library is
home to two 33-capacity instructional labs, 100+ computers, 11 group study
rooms, a Technology Checkout Program, multiple quiet study and collaborative
spaces, and informal lounge areas interspersed throughout the building and a
café. It has emerged as CSUDH students’ “Academic Home away from Home.”
CSUDH students study in a stunningly beautiful library that contains
multicultural artwork reflecting the ethnic and cultural diversity of the
campus, the community and the Southern California area. The library houses
two art galleries, one space of which is shared with the Faculty Development
Center, and the Archives and Special Collections Department.
