The Loyola University College of Law seeks to fill the position of Reference Librarian. This 
position will provide reference assistance to all Loyola Law Library constituents. This 
position will also provide direct reference assistance to specific law faculty through the 
faculty liaison program. Other tasks may include website management, outreach events, 
LibGuide creation, digital repository maintenance, or work on external committees. This 
position staffs the reference desk for three weekday afternoon/evening shifts, one 
weekday day shift, and one full Sunday shift each week during the Fall and Spring 
semesters. Hours vary during the summer. There may be other duties and 
responsibilities, which would be developed in consultation with the Director. The position 
is a full-time, non-tenure-track position and is classified as extraordinary faculty.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants should possess a J.D. degree from an A.B.A. 
approved law school and an M.L.S. or the equivalent degree from an A.L.A. accredited 
institution. Applicants with completion of one of these degrees and substantial completion 
of the other degree with intent to finish the degree in the near future are eligible and 
welcome to apply for the position. Applicants should also have at least six months of 
work experience in a law library, with some level of reference experience and some 
webpage and/or technology experience. Candidates must be willing to work weekends 
and nights. Extensive intern/externships count toward the work experience requirement. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: It is preferable that applicants possess strong technology 
skills; demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills; possess knowledge 
of current trends in instructional and educational technologies, and possess some 
experience with digital repositories. Additionally, successful candidates will display the 
ability to meet Loyola University New Orleans requirements for promotion and tenure, 
including excellence in performing primary job responsibilities, evidence of self-
motivation, initiative, professionalism, scholarly productivity, and a commitment to 
professional and university service. While this position is not a tenure-track position, 
striving to meet this qualification is desired in an applicant. 

ENVIRONMENT: Established over a century ago, the College of Law follows the Jesuit 
tradition of strong academic programs, with an emphasis on justice and service to others. 
Both civil and common law curriculums are offered through full-time day and part-time 
evening programs, including five joint degree programs by the law school; supported by
