Acquisitions Librarian (tenure-track faculty position)

The University of Tennessee at Martin seeks a collegial and service-oriented
professional to serve as Acquisitions Librarian in a beautiful, rural-area,
academic library. The library serves a school of 6,000 on-site and distance
education undergraduate students in northwest Tennessee and five off-site
centers. The library collection provides access to more than 300,000,
books, 100,000 eBooks, and over 100,000 periodicals in over 80 electronic
databases. The library uses LibGuides, and Sierra (Innovative) as its ILS.
The University of Tennessee at Martin (UTM) is a primary campus in the
University of Tennessee system located in northwest Tennessee approximately
125 miles north of Memphis and 150 miles west of Nashville. The University’s
emphasis is rooted in excellence of undergraduate instruction. The students

Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be able to:
A. Acquisitions:
• Solicits from stakeholders, researches, and recommends potential resources
for evaluation, assessment, and ultimate approval to the Collection
Development Committee.
• Selects, approves, and coordinates the acquisition of materials in all
formats (including but not limited to monographs, periodicals, serials,
scores, and electronic resources).
• Ensures accurate and timely processing of invoices, subscription orders
and renewals, and license agreements in compliance with applicable
University and state policies and procedures.
• Manages and expends acquisition budget of over $1,000,000, which includes
books, periodicals, and electronic databases; manages and expends restricted
funds; produces financial reports (tracking monies allocated, encumbered and
expended) for various collections and subject areas; and ensures
reconciliation of all funds with campus ledgers.
• Establishes and maintains effective relationships with vendors and
electronic service providers.
B. Other Duties
• Serves as Library liaison to designated departments, providing collection
development (with a primary focus on undergraduate populations), and creates
and updates Library (Lib) Guides and other finding aids, tools, or tutorials.
• Staffs the reference desk on a scheduled basis including some evenings and
weekend hours.
• Maintains awareness of trends and advances in the field by attending
professional workshops, meetings, conferences and other events.
• Progresses successfully along the promotion and tenure track, and
participates fully as a member of the university faculty including serving
on internal library and campus-wide faculty and related committees.
• Performs other duties as required.
Required Qualifications:
• Masters of Library Science (MLS) from an ALA accredited program or equivalent
• 1-2 years library experience
• Excellent organizational and communication skills, strong commitment to
public service, and ability to work with diverse users and staff.
Preferred Qualifications:
• At least one year of documented success working with library collections,
vendors, and budgets, preferably in an academic setting.
• Working knowledge of cataloging practice and standards, including MARC
records management.
• Working knowledge of an integrated library system (ILS).
Work will involve occasionally climbing ladders and lifting up to 25 pounds
to shoulder level. The successful candidate must be willing to accept a
faculty appointment at an assistant/associate level and meet University of
Tennessee standards for promotion and tenure.
Salary/Benefits:
This is a twelve-month, tenure-track, faculty appointment with the rank at
the Assistant/Associate Professor level; salary will reflect the successful
candidate’s qualifications and professional experience; benefits include a
choice of health and retirement plans, tuition waiver for self, and partial
tuition waivers for dependents.
