Subject: Noncommutative Algebras and Applications, Germany, Jun 2015

The meeting will take place from June 14 to June 16 in Goslar in the
Haus am Steinberg in Goslar, in the North of the Harz Mountains:

http://www.lernen-im-gruenen.de/bildungszentren/standorte/haus-am-steinberg.html

Scope: Besides analytic approaches to noncommutative algebraic
problems, we see nowadays large developments of numerical solutions of
problems in linear noncommutative algebras. Therefore, the organizers
intend to bring together researches including Ph.D. students to open
up the opportunity to present and discuss their current and upcoming
results on noncommutative algebras, may it be an analytic or numerical
result, or an application to other fields.

The deadline for registration is April 15, 2015.

Date: April 10, 2015
Subject: Structured Low-Rank Approximation, France, Jun 2015

Workshop on structured low-rank approximation, GIPSA-lab, Grenoble,
1-2 June, 2015

Low-rank matrix approximations appear in a wide range of applications:
signal and image processing, systems and control theory,
symbolic-numeric computations, etc. In many cases, the matrices are
structured (for example, Hankel/Toeplitz, block-Hankel, Sylvester,
quasi-Hankel), and a low-rank approximation preserving the matrix
structure is desirable. This problem is known as structured low-rank
approximation, or SLRA.

This two-day workshop will feature invited talks by renowned experts
in SLRA and related topics, including development of efficient
algorithmic approaches to deal with these difficult nonconvex
problems, analysis of their convergence and theoretical guarantees,
convex relaxations of SLRA, applications of SLRA and relations to
other techniques like tensor decompositions.

Organizers: Laurent Condat, Konstantin Usevich

Participation in the workshop is free of charge, subject to mandatory
registration.

Please refer to the workshop website:

Date: April 09, 2015
Subject: Tensor Decompositions and Applications, Belgium, Jan 2016

Announcement and call for abstracts
Third Workshop on Tensor Decompositions and Applications (TDA 2016)
January 18-22, 2016
Leuven, Belgium

Higher-order tensor methods are intensively studied in many
disciplines nowadays. The developments gradually allow us to move from
classical vector and matrix based methods in applied mathematics and
mathematical engineering to methods that involve tensors of arbitrary
order. This step from linear transformations, quadratic and bilinear
forms to polynomials and multilinear forms is relevant for the most
diverse applications. Furthermore, tensor methods have firm roots in
multilinear algebra, algebraic geometry, numerical mathematics and
optimization.

This workshop will bring together researchers investigating tensor
decompositions and their applications. It will feature a series of
invited talks by leading experts and contributed presentations on
specific problems. TDA 2016 is held in cooperation with the Society
for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) and has been endorsed by
the International Linear Algebra Society (ILAS). Part of the workshop
is supported by the ERC Advanced Grant BioTensors.

Subject: Numerical Programming Position, NYC

Sendyne, a technology company based in lower Manhattan, develops
numerical models for battery systems, power grids and related energy
systems.

We are actively recruiting for some programming talent to join our
team. Topics of immediate interest include numerical solution of
differential-algebraic systems, applied linear algebra, spline fitting
and optimization. At the present time we are not heavily involved in
PDEs, but that might be a topic of future interest. This is a hands-on
position requiring a working knowledge of C++ and Fortran with
emphasis on good coding practice and performance.

Some knowledge of physics, chemistry, applied math or electrical
engineering would be highly valued, but is not an absolute requirement
for the position. Candidates anywhere from a strong recent
undergraduate degree to a Ph.D. would be considered.
