Dear all,
April 13 – 16 will see a true Archaeology Fest at the University of Tennessee. At the initiative of Prof. Les Essif, Professor of French in UT’s Department of Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures, and with the cooperation of many departments, UT’s Ready For The World Awards Committee, and the East Tennessee Society of the Archaeological Institute of America, we have been able to invite two prominent archaeologists to campus for a series of five lectures.
Professor Jean-Pierre Brun of the prestigious Collège de France will give four lectures:
“The State of the Art of Archaeology in France” (in French) April 13, 3:30 pm, Hodges Library 213
“Pompeii Beyond the Clichés: Historic Development and Economic Activities,” April 14, 7:30 pm, McClung Museum Museum (Eighth Harry C. Rutledge Memorial Lecture in Archaeology)
“Another History? Recent Archaeological Excavations Rewrite the Economic History of Antiquity” April 15, 4:00 pm, 1210-1211 McClung Tower
“Gold, Granite and Luxury Trade: Excavations of Gold Mines, Imperial Quarries, Roman Forts and Ports in the Eastern Desert of Egypt” April 16, 12:40 pm, Ayres Hall G0003 (Haines-Morris Distinguished Lecture, Department of Classics)
Prof. Brun’s visit is sponsored by UT’s Ready For the World Grant, the Department of Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures, the East Tennessee Society of the Archaeological Institute of America (Rutledge Archaeology Lecture Fund), Department of Classics (Haines-Morris Distinguished Lecture Fund), MARCO, Frank H.
