As a racially mixed undergraduate, Wilma Dunaway. entered UT in 1962 during the
second year of the university’s voluntary desegregation. She served as Associate
Director of the Knoxville Area Urban League from 1969 to 1979 and was involved
in Knoxville’s federal court case about school desegregation.
Dr. Wilma Dunaway is a professor in the School of Public and International Affairs
at Virginia Tech University. She is a Distinguished Alumna of the University of
Tennessee where she earned three degrees (BS, MA, and PhD), all in Sociology.
