Government Resources and Public Services Librarian (tenure-track faculty position)
University of Tennessee at Martin, Paul Meek Library

The University of Tennessee at Martin seeks a collegial and service-oriented professional
to serve as Government Information and Resources Librarian in a rural-area academic
library. The 400,000 volume-equivalent library serves a school of 8,000 mostly on-site
and distance education undergraduate students in rural northwest Tennessee and four off-
site centers. The library uses LibGuides, and Sierra (Innovative) as its ILS.

Responsibilities:
 
The successful candidate:

A. Government Resources and Information
• Manages all government documents collections (state and federal) ensuring that the
collections are organized and maintained according to requirements, rules, and
regulations
• Maintains required records and prepares reports required by agency regulations and
Paul Meek Library administration
• Promotes awareness and usage of collection resources to the university, local
community, and the constituency of Tennessee’s Eighth Congressional District through
outreach events and marketing initiatives

B. Reference and Research Assistance
• Provides professional reference and research services to library patrons (both on and
off-site) as a member the User Services Team
• Serves as Library liaison to several academic departments, providing instruction,
reference, collection development, and outreach activities as well as the creation and
updating of Library (Lib) Guides and other finding aids, tools, or tutorials
• Participates in Information/Reference Desk duty rotation (weekday, evening, and
weekend) and in online reference duties

C. Library/Information Literacy and User Instruction
• Fosters the development of library and information literacy initiatives and
participates in the creation, distribution, and assessment of resources, programs, and
activities
• Participates directly and indirectly in instructional support through preparation of
materials, teaching of courses, assistance to faculty, and other appropriate pedagogically-
based activities
• Shares responsibility for building, maintaining and promoting collections that
support curriculum related research and instruction (with a primary focus on
undergraduate populations)
• Attends professional workshops, meetings, conferences and other events

Required Qualifications:
• ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS by day of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in government documents.
• Experience in public services or reference in an academic undergraduate-library
setting.

Work will involve occasionally climbing ladders and lifting up to 25 pounds to shoulder
level. The successful candidate must be willing to accept a faculty appointment at an
assistant/associate level and meet University of Tennessee standards for promotion and
tenure.


Salary/Benefits:

This is a twelve-month appointment with faculty rank at the Assistant/Associate Professor
level; salary will reflect the successful candidate’s qualifications and professional
experience; benefits include a choice of health and retirement plans, tuition waiver for
self, and partial tuition waivers for dependents.
