Join us as local personality Hallerin Hilton Hill interviews Valisia LeKae, Grammy
and Tony-nominated artist, about her experiences as an African American actress
and singer.
An alumna of the Psychology department, Valisia LeKae has been blessed to grace
the Broadway stage numerous times in productions of The Threepenny Opera, 110
in the Shade, Ragtime, and The Book of Mormon.
She recently starred as Diana Ross in Motown the Musical, for which she garnered
a 2014 Grammy nomination, 2013 Tony nomination, Theatre World Award, Drama
League nomination, and an Outer Critics Circle nomination.
Since being diagnosed with ovarian cancer on December 2, 2013, LeKae has used
her voice to spread awareness about this deadly, silent disease. She is now the
spokesperson for the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition.
The Trailblazer Series is founded and supported by the Commission for Blacks and
the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Diversity.
Sponsorship provided by the Ready for the World Initiative and the College of Law,
the Department of Psychology, and the Department of Theatre for their
sponsorship.
A special thanks to the College of Arts and Sciences.
The intent of the Trailblazer Series is to highlight accomplishments of African
Americans within the UT community through an annual speaking series. The
inaugural series kicks off this fall and will continue through the spring semester.
