Position Title:Retention and Student Engagement, Graduate Research Assistant

Summary of Position:
The Retention and Student Engagement Graduate Research Assistant is
responsible for assisting with the coordination, execution and assessment of
retention and student engagement initiatives within the Office of Multicultural
Student Life, in addition to providing advisory support for the Multicultural
Mentoring Program. This position is also responsible for assessing and
researching best practices for retention, persistence and graduation of
underrepresented student populations.
Areas of Responsibility:
Programming and Advising
· Co-advise the Multicultural Mentoring Program consisting of 50-70
undergraduate mentors
· Create the annual programming, recruitment, orientation and training
calendar that focuses on specific objectives and learning outcomes to include:
the Multicultural Student Symposium, Rites of Passage, and Success Skills
Workshops
· Supervise the mentor recruitment, screening, selection, training and
evaluation process
· Create and update peer mentor manual
· Maintain systems of accountability and internal controls
· Partner with student organizations, departments, corporations and
community groups
· Insure the maintenance and updates for the MMP Website, Instagram,
Twitter and Collegiate Link page
· Strategically market the Minority Achievement Program to incoming
students, parents and potential mentors through participation in admissions
recruiting events
Retention and Student Engagement
· Assist Associate Director in the development, coordination and execution
of retention and student engagement initiatives
· Co-coordinate training for the development of leadership and mentoring
skills for MSL students
· Co-lead or co-instruct trainings, success skills workshop and first year
studies courses specific to the retention and persistence of underrepresented
student populations
Assessment and Research
· Assist Associate Director in developing student learning goals and
outcomes, and identification of proper assessment tools
· Explore possible grant and funding opportunities for retention and student
engagement opportunities
· Research best practices concerning the retention, persistence and
graduation of underrepresented student populations
Departmental
· Attend all staff meetings and major departmental functions and programs
· Prepare and present semester and annual reports to Director and
Associate Director
· Support departmental staff, programs and events
Performs other related duties and tasks requested by the Director and Associate
Director.
Salary/Benefits:
Tuition Waiver plus $1,167.00/month stipend
Health insurance
Term: 20 Hours per week; 12 Month Appointment at will
