17th IMA Fox Prize in Numerical Analysis - final reminder
The Seventeenth IMA Leslie Fox Prize meeting will take place on Monday
June 22nd, 2015, in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics,
University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland, just prior to the 26th
Biennial Conference on Numerical Analysis.
Entries for the Seventeenth Leslie Fox Prize competition should be
submitted by January 31, 2015. Any person who is less than 31 years
old on January 1st, 2015 and has not already won a first prize is
eligible. Each entry should consist of a paper, describing some of the
candidate's research, that is suitable for a 40 minute lecture at a
numerical analysis meeting.
The entries will be considered by an Adjudicating Committee comprising
Nick Gould (Chairman, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory), Ben Leimkuhler
(U. Edinburgh) and Andy Wathen (U. Oxford).
Full details of the prize, and the submission procedure, may be found
at http://www.numerical.rl.ac.uk/people/nimg/fox/

Subject: Supercomputing Frontiers, Singapore, Mar 2015
Singapore will play host to the Supercomputing Frontiers Conference,
set to take place March 17-20. Organised by Singapore’s A*STAR
Computational Resource Centre, the conference will provide a vital
platform for industry and academic experts to interact and explore the
latest global trends and innovations in high performance computing.
The conference themes include the following:
- Supercomputing applications in domains of critical impact in
economic and human terms, and especially those requiring computing
resources approaching exascale;
- Big data science merging with supercomputing with associated issues
of I/O, high bandwidth networking, storage, workflows and real time
processing;
- Architectural complexity of exascale systems with special focus on
supercomputing interconnects, interconnect topologies and routing,
and interplay of interconnect topologies with algorithmic
communication patterns for both numerically intensive computations
and big data; and
- Any other topic that push the boundaries of supercomputing to
exascale and beyond
Jack Dongarra, Thomas Sterling and Satoshi Matsuoka are among the
keynote speakers scheduled to present at the event.
Registration is now open, and attendees can register here -
http://supercomputingfrontiers2015.com/
A Call for Papers
(http://supercomputingfrontiers2015.com/call-for-papers/) for the
conference can be accessed as well.

Subject: Domain Decomposition Methods for PDEs, Canada, Aug 2015
“Domain Decomposition Methods for PDEs" Short Course + Collaborative
Workshop, organized by the AARMS Collaborative Research Group in
Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing,
Aug. 4, 2015 — Aug. 8, 2015 - Halifax, NS, Canada
The use of computational methods to treat mathematical models in
science and engineering is widespread. Such models often involve PDEs,
and the efficiency of these algorithms on modern high performance
computing systems relies on the ability to parallelize the
computations. The aim of this workshop is to provide an introduction
to the state of the art in theory and practical applications of domain
decomposition (DD) methods for PDEs.
The program will begin with a two-day short course given by
Prof. Martin Gander (Geneva). Prof. Gander is an internationally
recognized leading expert in Schwarz methods - a class of DD methods
for steady state and time dependent PDEs. The middle component of the
program will focus on presentations by researchers whose work may
benefit from the use of DD methods for PDEs arising as mathematical
models in practical applications. The final segment of the program
will feature a workshop format in which breakout teams will
investigate the process of introducing DD techniques into the
numerical simulations that arise in the applications identified
earlier.
Confirmed DD experts include David Keyes (KAUST), Victorita Dolean
(Nice) and Felix Kwok (Hong Kong Baptist).
Some funding for students will be available. More information and
registration details will appear shortly at
http://www.math.mun.ca/anasc/

Subject: deal.II User and Developer Workshop, USA, Aug 2015
There will, as every odd year, be a US edition of the annual deal.II
meeting:
deal.II User and Developer Workshop
College Station, TX
August 3-7, 2015
With support from NSF, we can support travel by a limited number
(20-30) of students and postdocs from within the US, but participants
from elsewhere and at other career stages are of course welcome as
well.
As in previous years, the format will allow everyone interested to
give short talks, but we keep a significant fraction of time blocked
off for a "hackathon" style meeting where people are encouraged to
work on their own or shared projects in a setting where plenty of
people with experience are available for help and collaboration.
If you are interested in coming (no firm commitment necessary at this
time), please enter your name to the spreadsheet at
http://tinyurl.com/m7p3lae
so that we can get an idea of how many people want to attend.
