Join the McClung Museum for a lecture by Sara E. Cole, curator of the special exhibit, Glass of the Ancient Mediterranean. Cole will present the lecture, “Art Form and Industry–The History of Glassmaking in the Ancient Mediterranean,” which will explore an overview of the history and development of ancient glassmaking, using pieces from the Yale University Art Gallery collection–as well as exemplary objects from museum collections around the world–to illustrate the stages of glass development.
Cole graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2009 with a B.A. summa cum laude in Classics, where she primarily studied the art and archaeology of the Bronze Age Aegean. She is a PhD candidate in Ancient History at Yale University, and is currently writing her dissertation, entitled “Visual Culture and Elite Identity in Ptolemaic Egypt.” Since 2012, Cole has served as a curatorial intern at the McClung Museum of Natural History and Culture, University of Tennessee and as a Graduate Curatorial Intern in the Ancient Art Department at the Yale University Art Gallery. Her interests include ancient material culture, museology, the Bronze Age Aegean, ancient Egypt, the Hellenistic world, and intercultural connections in the ancient eastern Mediterranean.
