Dear colleague --
I am writing you with high hopes that you can alert
mathematically/technology inclined students in your program to a new
opportunity for graduate studies at Georgia Institute of Technology.
Georgia Tech has recently been awarded a $2.8M IGERT (Integrative Graduate
Education and Research Traineeship) grant from the National Science
Foundation. Our program is called FLAMEL (From Learning, Analytics, and
Materials to Entrepreneurship and Leadership). FLAMEL is an
interdisciplinary project that intersects in computational science &
engineering, mathematics, material science, and mechanical engineering
(other disciplines may be added later). Students will be able to
formulate relevant problems in material design or manufacturing and work
in interdisciplinary teams to develop innovative solutions. Our program
includes an entrepreneurship component designed to enable students to
transform innovations into economic value.
US citizens and permanent residents who are applying for PhD programs at
Georgia Tech are eligible to apply. Doctoral programs that align strongly
with the goals of FLAMEL include, but are not limited to, the following
disciplines: computational science and engineering, computer science,
materials science, mechanical engineering and mathematics. The student
would be accepted into a specific disciplinary program and would be
expected to fulfill the PhD requirements within that program. In
addition, the students will participate in a variety of activities,
including an annual two-day workshop, weekly "Chalk & Talk" series, and
seminars and distinguished lecture series. FLAMEL is a two-year program,
and the student's will receive a stipend of $30,000 each year, plus
tuition.
I have attached a PDF of a flier that can be given to interested students,
or posted in your common areas. In addition, a website for the program,
with links to more specific details can be found at:
http://flamel.gatech.edu/
Interested students can find the application procedure at:

Finally, if any student or faculty with further questions can contact me
([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>), Holly Rush, or any of
the FLAMEL affiliated faculty.
Georgia Institute of Technology is located in Atlanta, GA and is an equal
opportunity employer, and strongly encourages female and minority
applicants.
Best regards,
Holly Rush
