FYI: Please note our own Prof. Darby (and spouse Prof Darby in Religious Studies) will speak on 10/8.
Dear friends,
Please find attached the announcement of our first AIA/East Tennessee Society lecture on October 8. Robert and Erin Darby of the University of Tennessee will talk about, “Adventures at ‘Ayn Gharandal: The 2013 Season.”
As always, our lectures will take place at 7:30 pm in the McClung Musuem.
On Sunday October 13, the East Tennessee Society and the McClung Museum will jointly organize a Fossil and Archaeology Day in the McClung Museum as part of International Archaeology Day. For more information, please contact Erin Darby at [log in to unmask]
On Tuesday October 15 at 7:30 pm, the McClung Museum will host a lecture by Dr. Salima Ikram, American University of Cairo, on “An Eternal Zoo: Ancient Egyptian Animal Mummies.” For more information, please contact the museum.
I attach a provisional schedule of this year's lecture schedule with information about our Society and upcoming events. The January and February lectures are still under construction, but the other lectures are in place. For members there is an opinion poll that will help us decide about next year's lecture program. As every year, we would appreciate your voluntary contributions because these fund our mailings and receptions.
If you are not yet a member of the Archaeological Institute of America, we encourage you to join us. You can enroll on-line at www.archaeological.org/ or by filling out one of the AIA folders that will be available at the lecture. When you join the AIA, you can indicate the East Tennessee Society as your local AIA society, and this automatically makes you a member of our Society.
I am on research leave in Greece this year, and will continue to carry out administrative matters as much as I can from here. This year's ETS president, Erin Darby, and vice-president, Theo Kopestonsky, have kindly agreed to take care of secretary-treasurer duties on the ground.
We very much hope to see you at our events!
Best regards,
Aleydis
