Assistant Branch Manager 

Education:  MLS degree from ALA accredited library school and 3 years library 
experience that includes youth services, public libraries and staff supervision 
Qualifications:  The person filling this position must have strong supervisory 
skills to manage the day-to-day operations of a busy regional branch. It is 
essential that the person in this position be able to direct the activities of 
others while maintaining excellent customer service relations. The Assistant 
Branch Manager will have knowledge of library materials, issues and trends, 
experience with reference and children's and young adult materials. Also, 
mediates patron complaints, supervises staff in Branch Manager's absence, 
prepares schedules, assigns duties, and evaluates performance to ensure 
quality service. 

This person will develop and train staff, and will be involved in material 
selections conducive to the community, excellent communication skills, provide 
patron service orientation for work in the library and community. The Assistant 
Branch Manager participates in community events and works with community 
groups in order to promote the Library and its initiatives. Computer literacy is 
a necessity and must have a definite commitment to public service.

Schedule: Mon. & Wed. 8:45-5:30, Tue. & Thur. 12:15-9, alt Fri. &amp; Sat. 9-6

Position:  Regional Youth Services Librarian
 
Education:  MLS from an ALA accredited Library School and 3–5 year’s library 
experience desirable. 

Qualifications:  This position provides direct service, plans and implements 
branch and outreach programs for juveniles, teens and young adults, 
supervises Youth Services Providers, part-time homework helpers and teen 
volunteers, mentors and assists with appraisal of YS staff at two branches. 
Will work closely with branch staff, provides operational support in the areas 
of circulation, statistical reporting, opening and closing the branch, patron 
complaints, problem solving, scheduling, outreach services, collection 
development and presentations and may be placed in charge for brief periods 
of time. Serves as part of Youth Services leadership team.

The successful candidate must have knowledge of reference tools, 
bibliographic sources, cataloging, and classification systems; strong 
organizational and long-range planning skills, creativity and strong public 
speaking and storytelling skills are essential. Experience with computers, 
databases and print reference sources required. Experience in service to youth 
(in education, child care, youth development or related fields) is preferred. 
Knowledge of literature for children and young adults required.

Schedule: Mon-Thur 9-5 or 12-9, alt Fri and Sat

Position:  Youth Services Provider 

Education:  Bachelor’s Degree in education or child development. 

Qualifications:  The person in this position prepares deposit collections, 
prepares and presents programs to schools, headstarts, daycares, parent and 
teacher groups, etc. Provide reference assistance to children and youth. 
Computer experience necessary as this individual will assist children and adults 
with computers, including Internet access. Experience in library setting, 
knowledge of children’s literature and storytelling skills are essential. 
Experience with children and teens are a plus.

This position requires flexibility and good written and verbal communication 
skills. Must be able to work with children of all ages, and possess sound 
judgment. The Youth Services Provider travels to various locations for 
storytelling and other outreach programs. This individual must be able to 
establish rapport with co-workers, patrons and staff in daycare centers, 
headstarts, and busy neighborhood library serving a diverse multicultural 
clientele. The Youth Services Provider works closely with the Regional Youth 
Library, and may supervise homework helpers and volunteers.

Schedule: Mon.-Thur 8:45-5:15 or 12:30-9 (2 evenings shifts per week) 
Alternating Friday and Saturday 9-6
