What, with the baby? Are you offering to feed and clean Robert, Jacques?

I am planning on writing up another blurb for Froglog to get the information out into that circle again (it was fairly wide read and well received). I think I can pitch to the editor of Copeia (I am an associate editor there) a summary type article highlighting much of the work presented. I welcome those interested to contribute if I can get the all clear. I do think it would be great if we can get submissions to non taxon specific journals to increase awareness so I encourage folks to step up as well.

Subject: Some GRC Activities

Dear GRC:

A reminder to please send information about your laboratory or others that you use for diagnostics of ranavirus infection and disease to your continental representative by tomorrow, Friday, 30 August, 5:00 pm Eastern Daylight Time. Submission instructions are provided below this email.

Continental Representatives:

Please compile and forward laboratory information to me by Monday, 2 September, instead of Amanda.

Congratulations are in order for Amanda --- she gave birth last night to a baby boy, Robert!!

Other tasks the GRC is working on:

(1) We are compiling suggestions for the GRC logo and will send a survey soon to vote for your preference,

(2) We will be sending instructions by mid-September for submitting proposals to host the 2015 International Symposium on Ranaviruses,

(3) Greg Chinchar and Ellen Ariel are working on the first draft of the bylaws for the GRC, and

(4) I am uploading videos of everyone’s symposium presentations to an iTunes site, and will share them along with photos that Yumi Une’s husband and I took. If you do NOT what your video (or slides) posted, please let me know. Amanda has a partial list, but considering she is currently unavailable, please send an email to me by Monday, 2 September, and I will not post your information. If you approve posting, you do not need to send an email to me.

As mentioned during the symposium, the GRC would like to update its website with interactive options. We received one lead from Darren Dunlap (USGS) of an individual that might be able to assist. If you have any leads of someone who has skills in website design, and would be willing to do it gratis or for a nominal fee, please let me know by 13 September .

Lastly, the GRC Executive Board was curious if any individuals were planning to write summary papers over the symposium for submission to journals, newsletters, etc? Deb and I submitted a brief summary about the symposium and WDA conference for the newsletter of the Southeastern Section of the Wildlife Society. In 2011, we produced several publications; below are links.

It would be great if we could produce 1-2 similar publications. These deliverables will help us secure funding for the 2015 symposium.

Thanks to everyone who attended and presented at the 2013 symposium. We received a lot of feedback, and look forward to making the 2015 symposium even better!

There are a few resources with a partial list of diagnostic labs that test for ranavirus; see the following links:

Ann’s email highlights the need for a comprehensive list by continent of diagnostic laboratories, or research laboratories that are willing to process samples for individuals. To standardize the submission of information and reduce emails to the LISTSERV, please submit laboratory information to your GRC continental representative (see list at: http://fwf.ag.utk.edu/mgray/ranavirus/Ranavirus.htm[fwf.ag.utk.edu] < https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v1/url?u=http://fwf.ag.utk.edu/mgray/ranavirus/Ranavirus.htm&k=lmxj0uloiQslubycBXSv7A%3D%3D%0A&r=6azyMFetiZOkZtAwDy1NdxiwrR0Xlw%2FpHMSvbscNVCKHbYDlPWoOpB02oDIdCPR6%0A&m=8KIyP%2FbGaSrW6nh1xn%2BPfW3rcufQPueEjkrJSoWQ1QI%3D%0A&s=ca7f788d2c90b3c1bf7188caa73f3e47a4c9a9124ed48e132baa06fccb2b9bc3 > ) by Friday, 30 August . Your representative will submit submissions to the GRC (Amanda Duffus), and we will post on the website for reference.

Our lab is offering real-time PCR for diagnostic or research applications on a fee-for-service and collaborative basis. We also can provide: 1) conventional PCR and sequencing (MCP, Pol and NF) for preliminary characterization of positive samples (e.g. FV3-like vs ATV-like); 2) PCR from ethanol or formalin-fixed paraffin embedded tissues (FFPE); and 3) Histopathology to support outbreak investigations or characterization of tissue changes associated with experimental infections.

Hi Ann,

That is something that the GRC was planning on offering. Perhaps we can use this opportunity to push up our due-date.

Would those offering diagnostic services email me a list of what you can offer and the terms. For instance, my lab can perform quantitative real time PCR and isolate and titer live ranaviruses, but we generally only do small numbers of samples or collaborate with others on larger projects; we are not a fee-for-service operation. I have a web page with instructions for submission here: http://public.wsu.edu/~jesse.brunner/samples.html[public.wsu.edu] < https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v1/url?u=http://public.wsu.edu/~jesse.brunner/samples.html&k=lmxj0uloiQslubycBXSv7A%3D%3D%0A&r=6azyMFetiZOkZtAwDy1NdxiwrR0Xlw%2FpHMSvbscNVCKHbYDlPWoOpB02oDIdCPR6%0A&m=8KIyP%2FbGaSrW6nh1xn%2BPfW3rcufQPueEjkrJSoWQ1QI%3D%0A&s=191719bed03e2735df5005423b461c99528ac8bc0d6a150439eddf2bdbaf4ec4 >

I'm sure there are others and it would be very useful to put together a list. We will add a page with this information on the GRC website once we revise it.
