A couple of items of data from the ALISE statistics to add to the
discussion:
In Fall 2004, 24% of FTE faculty in schools hosting ALA-accredited
master's programs were part-time faculty; that rose to 26% by Fall 2011.
In Fall 2004, 61% of course sections were taught by part-time faculty; the
corresponding figure for Fall 2011 is 62%.
There is no direct way from the ALISE statistics to look at the number of
students reached by part-time vs. full-time faculty.
I don't currently have access to older data, but will take a look at
longer-range trends when I do.
