--- UT's Confucius Institute will celebrate its opening with an inauguration ceremony and gala stage show on Friday, April 12. The ribbon cutting is at 3:30 p.m. at the I-House, and a stage show featuring performers from UT and traditional Chinese performers from Southeast University is at 7:30 p.m. in Alumni Memorial Building's Cox Auditorium. Students are invited to both events.

Barber will discuss his time spent in Egypt, present his research project, and show a clip of the Center's documentary that follows key Egyptian revolutionaries. --- "Out of the Darkness" campus walk, 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 13, at Thompson Boling Arena, The walk is to support research and education programs to prevent suicide and save lives, increase national awareness about depression and suicide and provide support for survivors of suicide loss. Opportunities

--- The Alternative Spring Break D.C. team have been greatly affected by the service projects they worked with in the Capitol and are starting a drive benefiting Rachel's Women Center, Thrive DC, and So Others Might Eat. They will be collecting cosmetic items, hygiene products, hair products, combs, plastic ware, oven mitts, bread bins, laundry detergent, dish washing liquid, seasoning, sugar, etc. Donation boxes will be available in the CLS Resource room, UC 305. --- The sisters of Delta Zeta will be hosting their fifth annual spring philanthropy event, Turtle Tug, on April 23. This event raises funds for speech and hearing impairment and the Painted Turtle Camp, a camp for chronically/terminally ill children. Turtle Tug is a fun-filled afternoon of sand volleyball and tug-a-war in a pile of Jell-O. Teams will consist of 6-8 members. --- Marco Institute Essay Contest --- The Marco Institute for Medieval and Renaissance Studies welcomes undergraduate essays on topics pertaining to late antiquity as well as medieval and Renaissance studies for its annual award. Three prizes will be awarded: $500 for first place; $300 for second place; and $200 for third place. Marco-affiliated departments include: Architecture, Art, Classics, English, History, Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures, Music, Philosophy, and Religious Studies. Papers should be no fewer than 6 and no more than 20 double-spaced pages (not including title page and endnotes or bibliography). Students should submit their essays along with a cover sheet by 5 p.m. on April 29.
