--- National Public Health Week will be help April 1-5. The Public Health Graduate Student Association is sponsoring several events, including a booth in Presidential Court from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3, with games, and prizes. Also a showing of the award-winning movie "Escape Fire" followed by a panel discussion will be in the Hodges Library Auditorium Friday, April 5, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Questions? e-mail [log in to unmask]

--- The second annual Go Green Fair kicks off Earth Month events this Tuesday, April 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Pedestrian Walkway. Stop by to learn about environmental organizations from UT and the Knoxville community. --- The Women’s Coordinating Council presents the film “Anne Braden: Southern Patriot” on Thursday, April 4, at 7 p.m. in the Hodges Library Auditorium. The film chronicles the efforts of anti-racist organizer Anne Braden, a white Southern woman, and will be followed by a discussion with the film’s creator, Anne Lewis. --- Grammy-award winning vocalist, bassist, and composer Esperanza Spalding will perform at the Tennessee Theatre on Sunday, April 14. There are a limited number of tickets available to UT students for $5.

--- The Minority Enhancement for the University of Tennessee (ME4UT) presents Showtime: All Orange Everything on Friday, April 5, at 7:30 p.m. at the Alumni Memorial Building. This annual showcase is apart of the JUMP overnight visit program for admitted students. Showtime will feature a variety of campus organizations and students who will showcase their talent through dance, step, spoken word, and much more. All students are invited to attend. --- During April, the UT Libraries are conducting an online survey of all UT students. Tomorrow, April 2, students will receive an e-mail invitation to participate in the survey. Please take five minutes to share your opinion of library services. More at library.utk.edu/survey.

--- Students can get a variety of free screenings and tests at HealthBeat 2013. The event will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3, in the UC Ballroom. A small fee applies to tests that require lab work.

--- Arne Duncan, U.S. Secretary of Education, will speak at 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 3, as part of the Baker Center Distinguished Lecture Series. The lecture will take place in the UC Ballroom. The Baker Center will host a panel discussion with local and state education leaders following the lecture from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the Baker Center Toyota Auditorium. --- The Middle Eastern Student Association presents "From Rally to Revolution: Inside the Minds of Egyptian Youth Activists," a presentation by Dr. Brian Barber, director of UT's Center for the Study of Youth and Political Conflict. Come listen to his accounts of time spent in Egypt, presentation of the research project, and a clip of the center's documentary that follows key Egyptian revolutionaries on April 9, at 6:30 p.m. in the I-House Great Room. --- If you are interested in community service and learning about different careers, think about joining Rotaract. The speaker at our upcoming meeting will be Jim Decker, CEO of the regional MEDIC Blood Center on Ailor Avenue. The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 2, in HSS. --- Apply to be an Alternative Break Trip leader. Applications are due by 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 11. Student trip leaders are responsible for intentionally selecting a trip theme and location, creating the agenda of service opportunities, planning reflection opportunities, and providing pre-trip educational opportunities for participants. In addition, trip leaders will work as a team to coordinate fundraising opportunities to support the Alternative Break program.  Trip leaders will participate in a training program to facilitate trip preparation and engage in relevant leadership training. Opportunities

--- The Academic Affairs Committee of the Student Government Association announces the Golden Apple Award. This faculty honor is given by students to professors who have shown an outstanding ability to teach and engage students in the class material. Three faculty winners will receive recognition at the first annual Student Government Association's Faculty Appreciation Banquet. --- Are you interested in a career in counseling, social work, psychology, or any other area of social service? Then come the Social Service Career Panel and Fair on April 10. --- On Monday, April 8, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the I-House Great Room, the Language and World Business Student Association (LWBSA) and the Study Abroad Alumni Organization (SAAO) will host a Networking Night. Guest speakers Tyler d’Andrea, a representative from the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) and a representative from the UT Programs Abroad Office will present a short program. After the event, participants are invited to enjoy complimentary hors d’oeuvres during a networking hour where students will have the opportunity to mingle with faculty, staff, alumni, and representatives from local international businesses. --- Marco Institute Essay Contest --- The Marco Institute for Medieval and Renaissance Studies welcomes undergraduate essays on topics pertaining to late antiquity as well as medieval and Renaissance studies for its annual award. Three prizes will be awarded: $500 for first place; $300 for second place; and $200 for third place. Marco-affiliated departments include: Architecture, Art, Classics, English, History, Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures, Music, Philosophy, and Religious Studies. Papers should be no fewer than 6 and no more than 20 double-spaced pages (not including title page and endnotes or bibliography). Students should submit their essays along with a cover sheet by 5 p.m. on April 29.
