Good News

--- UT students who are KUB customers can start or stop their utility service online with the Start/Stop utilities service function. This is a good option if you are moving to a new address in Knoxville for the summer or after graduation. Go to www.kub.org and follow the Start/Stop link under Service Options on the home page. New visitors will need to register on the site to set up an account. You can even schedule a date to start/stop service online. An e-mail confirmation will be sent once your service request is submitted.

--- Want a cool poster of Smokey reading a book? Drop by the library this week to pick up "READ" posters featuring Smokey, Little Smokey, and other campus stars celebrating National Library Week. Posters are available at Hodges Library, the Music Library, and Pendergrass Agriculture & Veterinary Medicine Library. Check out the posters at facebook.com/utklibraries.

--- The UT Cinema Club will host their last Monday meeting of the semester with a screening of the Godard science fiction classic "Alphaville," 7:00 p.m. tonight in 111 Art and Architecture. --- In 1971, Daniel Ellsberg risked his reputation and his freedom when he released what came to be known as the Pentagon Papers, a series of documents revealing the US government's unease over the Vietnam War. --- Video documentaries by winners of the library's Free Range Video Contest will be screened on Tuesday, April 16, at 7 p.m. in the Hodges Library auditorium. During the screening, the audience will get a chance to vote live for the audience favorite. Awards will also be made to the top three videos chosen by a committee of student and faculty film and storytelling enthusiasts. Refreshments will follow the approximately 75-minute screening. --- "Israel/Palestine: What the Media Leaves Out," will be presented by veteran journalist and media critic Alison Weir in UC 223-224 at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17. Weir will discuss what American news media are not telling us about Israel-Palestine. --- The Women's Coordinating Council presents "Building Loving, Trusting Relationships" with Hill Harper on Thursday, April 18 at 7 p.m. in the UC Auditorium. Harper, an actor, graduate of Harvard Law School, and author of four books, will be speaking on a variety of ways men and women can build healthy relationships, including bridging the communication gap, distinguishing between sex and intimacy, and the role of self-worth in relationships. --- All this month, the UT Libraries is conducting an online survey of all UT students. On April 2, students received an e-mail invitation to participate in the survey. --- Are you LGBTQQIA and graduating in Spring, Summer, or Fall 2013? Sign up to participate in UT's second annual Lavender Graduation held in the Mary Greer Room of Hodges Library at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 25. A reception will follow the graduation. --- The UT Student Government Association (SGA) and the Advising Committee of the Undergraduate Council/Faculty Senate have partnered to implement a student assessment of academic advising. This survey assesses advising that takes place in a college advising center or in an academic department with an advisor in your major. The survey is anonymous. This Week in SGA

--- This week is Orange and White Week sponsored by the SGA Traditions Committee. Tuesday will be traditions trivia night in the Ampitheatre area between HSS and Pedestrian walkway from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Test your knowledge on UT's traditions and grab some free Rita's ice cream. There may even be a surprise speaker that you will not want to miss. Thursday is 3-ON-3 orange and white week basketball tournament from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in HPER Court A. Fill out your team's paperwork and turn it into the SGA Office in the UC for your chance to win a basketball signed by Coach Cuonzo Martin and bragging rights as the first ever champion of this surely-to-be highly competitive tournament.
