--- Peace Corps Coffee Hour, located at the Starbucks in Hodges Library, takes place every Thursday from 9 to 10 a.m. Talk to Peace Corps recruiter Amanda McRoy and learn about the organization and how to become a more competitive applicant. E-mail [log in to unmask] with questions.

--- Next week is Gamma Sigma Sigma Week and they will spend it promoting service activities. Members will be on the Pedestrian Walkway each day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. sharing information and raising money for their national service partners. Monday -- bake sale; Wednesday -- collecting donations and hosting a percentage night at Moe's from 5 p.m. to close; Thursday -- bake sale; Friday -- selling lemonade for Alex's Lemonade Stand. --- Amnesty International will host events for Human Rights Week on Monday and Tuesday. These two event focus on international issues of transgressions upon human rights. The first event is tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. in the UC Ballroom with Professor Ndiva Kofele-Kale of Cameroon giving a speech about Marafa Hamidou Yaya, a political prisoner of conscience, and the enforcement of human rights in due process in post-colonial countries. The second event will be held tomorrow from 6 to 8 p.m. in Hodges Library Room 213 and the Mary Greer Room which will feature a Palestinian Dinner and speech by Carolyn Spellings on the children affected by the Palestinian conflict The second part of the evening will allow UT students to paint notes and pictures for the children of Palestine that will be seen to a Palestinian school in Hebron in the West Bank. --- Is your organization looking for a fun, simple community service project? Consider Rotaract's Can-struct-a-rama. Your organization will be challenged to collect cans, and on April 6, bring those cans together to create a magnificent structure that best represents your organization. The team with the best sculpture will win a prize basket and a trophy. All cans collected will be donated to the Love Kitchen here in Knoxville. --- Have you heard about the new go.utk.edu? Are you looking for a way to get involved or a place for your organization to call home? Come learn about the new Collegiate Link system and how it will impact student organizations. Information sessions will be held Monday, March 11, at 7:30 p.m. in UC room 223-224, Tuesday, March 12, at 6:30 p.m. in UC room 220, and Wednesday, March 13 at 6:30 p.m. in UC room 220. --- Women’s Coordinating Council presents America’s Dirty Little Secret with speaker Theresa Flores at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, in the UC Auditorium. Survivor and author Flores will share her story of being a victim of trafficking at the age of fifteen from the suburbs of Detroit while still attending school and living in her parents’ house. --- There will be a Peace Corps information session about How to Be a More Competitive Applicant and an Application Workshop from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, in Room 251 of Hodges Library. --- OUTreach: UT's LGBT & Ally Resource Center will show two documentaries at 6 p.m., March 13, in the Hodges Library auditorium. "When I Knew" is a documentary about how and when LGBT folks knew they were not straight or cis. "Same Difference" is a short documentary about children of LGBT parents and how the lack of marriage equality affects their families. Brief discussion and Q&A will follow.

--- Don't miss out on this year's International Dance Competition. There will be contemporary and traditional dance performances that will allow you to experience other cultures.
The competition will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, in the UC Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public.

--- Can you have it all? Come to a Career & Life Balance Workshop Wednesday, March 13, from 7 to 8 p.m. in the University Center Shiloh Room to hear from a panel of professional women on how they reach goals in the workplace while maintaining value in family, friends, and fun. Students will be given the opportunity to ask questions about challenges and seek advice. They will walk away with resources and ideas on how to orient their future career goals in relation to their outside-of-work values. --- The UT Science Forum presents Dr. Kevin Hoyt, director of UT Forest Resources, AgResearch and Education Center, as the Science Forum speaker from noon to 1 p.m. on March 15, at Thompson-Boling Arena Dining Room C-D. His presentation is "The Proposed UT AgResearch Gas & Oil Well Research Project." The Science Forum is free and open to the public. Bring your lunch or purchase it from the Arena. --- There will be an interdisciplinary global threat presentation at 3 p.m. Friday, March 15, in College of Law Room 132. --- Gamma Sigma Sigma, Sigma Sigma Rho, and Phi Mu Alpha present Walk the Line: Line Dancing for Charity. Grab your cowboy boots and come line dance for a good cause. It will be Friday, March 15, from 8 to 11 p.m. in Circle Park. Proceeds will go to the Salvation Army and the Family Justice Center. Tickets will be sold on Pedestrian Walkway from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets are $8 for a single, $15 for a couple, and $10 at the door. E-mail [log in to unmask] with questions.

--- Research Week is this week. Starting with the Undergraduate Research Symposium on March 16, and including the Exhibition of Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement on March 18-19, the Office of Research offers lots of activities that showcase undergraduate research at UT. --- Camp Koinonia outdoor program for children with multiple disabilities is holding a 5k fundraiser event on St. Patrick's Day. All runners/walkers will be timed and will start from the pavilion in Tyson Park at 1 p.m., Sunday, March 17. This is a festive event and green attire is encouraged. This is a family and pet friendly event - all ages are welcome to participate. Help us raise money for Camp Koinonia and kids with multiple disabilities. Register online at thecampkoinonia.com. Get Involved

--- The Cross is a non-denominational Greek student ministry offered to Greeks and non-Greeks, and meets in the UC Ballroom on Wednesday nights at 8 p.m. It provides students the chance to unwind, worship, and hear a message about the Gospel. The alternative spring break trip, "Mega Impact," to Moutrie, Georgia, is scheduled for March 22-28 during UT's spring break. Spaces are still available and the cost is $195. --- Want to learn some dance moves, teach others what you know, or just meet new people? Then come out to Salsa with Latin American Student Organization. It will take place three nights: Monday, March 11, from 7 to 9 p.m. in Humes West Multipurpose Room; Tuesday, March 12, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Clement Hall Basement, and Thursday, March 14, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the BCC Multipurpose Room. --- Net Impact UTK, a new student chapter of Net Impact, will host a general membership meeting at 4 p.m. Monday, March 11, in Career Services, 100 Dunford Hall. Current members and new potential members are encouraged to attend. The meeting will provide an overview of chapter efforts to date and chapter initiatives for the upcoming semester. --- Interested in community service? Also interested in finding out more about a possible law career? Rotaract will help you do both. Rotary member Ed Anderson, a successful Knoxville attorney, will speak at the upcoming Rotaract meeting, and will answer any questions you might have. --- The annual Muslim Student Association Fast-a-thon will take place during the daylight hours on Thursday, March 14. Local businesses will donate $1 per pledge to the Love Kitchen. At sunset, all participants are invited to break their fast with delicious, home-cooked meals prepared by local families. Opportunities

--- Students--create a short video documentary or mockumentary and enter the library's Free Range Video Contest. Registration closes March 22, and entries are due April 2. A screening and awards ceremony will follow. Borrow a video camera and get technical help in the Studio at the Hodges Library Commons. Details at s.lib.utk.edu/freerange.

--- Do you know of a UT Knoxville faculty, staff, or student who goes the extra mile to help promote environmental leadership and sustainability on campus through education, peer outreach, and/or individual actions? --- The Office of Sustainability is now accepting photo submissions for the Earth Month Environmental Photo Contest. --- The Boyd Venture Fund is seeking students who are interested in applying for grants to grow their businesses. The grant application deadline for the spring 2013 semester is Wednesday, March 13. All UT students, regardless of academic discipline or degree program (undergraduate, master's, or doctoral), are eligible to apply. The grant is administered by UT's Anderson Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

--- For all students who own their own businesses, UT's Boyd Venture Fund is now accepting requests for seed funding grants. If you are a UT undergraduate or graduate student and you have a legally formed business (tax ID, business license), you are eligible. To apply, submit an executive summary of your business, projected or actual financial statements, along with the amount of seed funding requested and how it will be used, by Wednesday, March 13, to [log in to unmask], attention: Boyd Venture Fund. You will be notified of the opportunity to present to the grant panel by Monday, March 18, with final presentations on Friday, April 5. --- The summer school timetable is now available. Priority, senior, and junior registration is underway. Sophomores can begin registering tomorrow and freshmen on March 14. --- The Roosevelt Institute, a student organization sponsored by the Baker Center, will host the 2013 UT Government By & For Conference, 9 a.m. to 7:45 p.m. Friday, April 5, in the Baker Center auditorium. Students are encouraged to make a presentation on their version of an ideal democracy. The deadline to submit an abstract of the presentation is Thursday, March 14. Make Orange Green

--- In the spirit of friendly competition and going green, UT is hosting Recyclympics tomorrow. Faculty, staff, and students will compete in six Olympic-style recycling-themed events and win prizes. Crowd-pleasing favorites include the phonebook shot put, plastic bottle free throw, and bottle-cap-in-a-haystack. The competition will be from 1-4 p.m. in the Humanities amphitheater.
