Develop Your Own Edible Landscape
“Edible Landscaping: From Fruit to Nuts” is the topic of the Master Gardener’s
of Roane County’s (MGRC) eighth Winter Workshop to be held on Saturday the
2nd of February
This year the Master Gardeners have teamed up with Dr David Lockwood, the
Tennessee Extension Specialist for Fruit and Nuts; Roane County Extension
Agent, Grant Palmer and the Bradbury United Methodist Church to provide not
only classroom training on a variety of fruit and nut crops but also active,
hands on experience in an orchard.
In the morning Dr Lockwood and the team will provide training on the
procurement and planting of a variety of fruit and nut crops in preparation for
the spring season. After lunch the focus will change to orchard management
and pruning. The class will then move to the orchard for hands on experience
in tree pruning and tree shaping techniques. Each tree is different so seeing a
number of examples is important for skill mastery.
Last Year’s orchard workshop was a great success and received fabulous
reviews on everything from the food to the skill training. With this year’s
expansion of the course to include coverage of additional fruit and nut crops
and the participation of the award winning Dr Lockwood, course slots might fill
up fast, so register early. The fee for the course is twenty dollars. Register
