As the 57th Presidential Inauguration draws near, an exhibit from the
Associated Press, titled "The American President," is on display in the Rotunda
of the Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy on the UT campus, Jan. 9-
25, 2013.
Drawn from AP Images' vast photo archive, the display shows American
presidents at war, in victory and in defeat, in crises, campaigning, and leading
the country on the world stage. The more than 80 photos underscore the need
for AP photojournalists assigned to cover the White House to always keep their
eyes on the president, so they won’t miss those revealing, unexpected
moments .
As a special treat, Dr. Mike Martinez, a 26 year veteran photojournalist and
new assistant professor in UT’s Department of Journalism and Electronic Media,
will lead a “walking tour” of the exhibit at 5:30 pm on Wed. Jan. 16.
Dr. Martinez spent his professional career at the Associated Press in New York,
the Louisville Courier-Journal, the Detroit News, the Cincinnati Enquirer and the
Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Visiting hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Baker Center
will be closed on Jan. 21 for the Martin Luther King holiday. Admission is free.
