Good News

--- A new resource is available to students interested in tracking their service and volunteer hours. These include forms of community service and volunteerism that occur both on and off campus. Students with 100 confirmed, logged hours prior to graduation will receive a Service Medallion to wear during their commencement exercises, to commemorate their selfless service to our community. --- The McClung Museum will celebrate National Archaeology Day and National Fossil Day from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21. The museum, UT, and the Archaeological Institute of America, East Tennessee Society, are hosting this afternoon event, which will feature special activities, including: identifying artifacts, a pottery and flintknapping demonstration, writing in Egyptian hieroglyphs, and more. --- Career Services is hiring new peer career advisors for Spring 2013. Peer career advisors are trained and supervised para-professionals who provide career assistance to other students through UT Career Services. Responsibilities include critiquing resumes, assisting students with the use of the Career Resource Center, job search strategies, interview skills and promoting UT Career Services. Ready for the World Events

--- The I-House will celebrate Thailand Week this week, starting tonight with a free screening of "Bangkok Traffic Love Story" from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the I-House. There will be a cooking demonstration from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. tomorrow, guest speaker Rachelle Scott from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Oct. 17, and Thai Culture Night from 6 p.m to 8 p.m. on Oct. 18. Knoxville Connection

--- Make a difference in the lives of Knoxville's urban young people by volunteering your time as a tutor or homework helper. A minimum of an hour a week during after-school or evening hours for at least one semester is preferred. Opportunities start late October. Support provided.
