the next archaeology lectures organized by the East Tennessee Society of the Archaeological Institute of America and the McClung Museum are:
Chapurukha M. Kusimba, Professor of Anthropology & Curator of African Anthropology in the Field Museum of Natural History at Chicago, will visit the UTK campus on October 23-26, and present four lectures:
Tuesday October 23 at 7:30 pm, McClung Museum: "Understanding the Development of Urban Society in Ancient East Africa."
Wednesday October 24, 8:00 am and 9:00 am, HSS 105: "Beyond Cityscapes: Three Scales and Networks of Interaction in Precolonial Coastal East Africa" AFST 235.
Thursday October 25, 12:40-1:55 pm, Hodges 253: "Islam in Africa: The Role and Influence of Ibadism in Shaping the Political Economy of East Africa" AFST/REST/ANTH 373.
All lectures are open to the public and free of charge. The lectures on Wednesday and Thursday are class lectures, but everyone is welcome to attend as long as there are seats available.
Dr. Kusimba's visit is co-sponsored by UT's Ready for the World Global Awards Committee, Africana Studies, Department of Anthropology, Black Cultural Center, Department of Classics, Department of History, and Department of Religious Studies.
