--- The four finalists in the search for a new chief of the UT Police Department will visit for interviews over the next month. Each candidate will participate in a student open forum, where students can ask questions and discuss campus issues. The schedule is:

* Monday, April 16—Troy Lane, 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the University Center, Shiloh Room (235)

* Monday, April 23—Gus Paidousis, 5:00 to 6:00 p.m.  in the University Center, Shiloh Room (235)

* Monday, May 7—Carey Drayton,  5:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the University Center, Room 223-224

Here's a look at each of the candidates:

Carey Drayton, executive director of public safety/chief at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles since 2006, has more than thirty years of experience in campus law enforcement. Good News

--- UT students who are KUB customers can start or stop their utility service online with the Start/Stop utilities service function. Go to www.kub.org and follow the Start/Stop link under Service Options on the home page. New visitors will need to register on the site to set up an account. You can even schedule a date to start/stop service online. An e-mail confirmation will be sent once your service request is submitted.

--- Victoria Buck, a master's of fine arts candidate, and David Holland, a bachelor of fine arts candidate, are among 11 students chosen to have their work included in the Mid-South Sculpture Alliance's student sculpture exhibition. The exhibition, which opens April 21 at UT Chattanooga, has been organized as part of the alliance's annual meeting. --- The UTK Muslim Student Association holds Islamic Awareness Week this week, featuring conversations, panels, and awareness on and about American Muslims. Schedule of events: Monday, April 9: Facts Over Fiction - An Intro To Islam presented by Prof. Elliott Bazzano in UC room 223 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 10: Hijab-me! Wear a headscarf for a day on campus. The lecture for Tuesday will be Our Mother Mary - Women in Islam presented by Asmaa Alaoui and a panel of Muslim women in UC room 235 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 11: A Day In The Life of A "Mooz-lum." --- The Give Haiti Hope Club at UT is having a spring party in celebration of a great semester at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10 in the Mary Greer room in the Library near Starbucks. The group will discuss summer mission trip opportunities, fall fundraising ideas, updates from Boucan Carre, Haiti, and other information. --- Milton M. Klein History Lecture, 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, in the Toyota Auditorium in the Baker Center. Topic: "Defining Allegiance at the Borders of Empire: Christianity, Slavery, and Nationality in the Atlantic World." Free and open to the public.

--- The UT Economics Club invites everyone to their second annual Debt Event to discuss the national debt crisis on Wednesday, April 11 at 6:30 p.m. in Haslam Business Building room 402. Speaker: Don Bruce, professor of economics and the UT Center for Business and Economic Research. The United States is in $14 trillion of debt. What are the specifics of our debt? How are spending and revenue allocated?  What do the proposed plans for future action look like, and will they actually succeed in lowering our debt?  Find out at this event. Free and open to the public.

--- The Women’s Coordinating Council will host sex educators Marshall Miller and Rachel Dart who will present "The Female Orgasm" on Thursday, April 12 at 7:00 p.m. in the UC Auditorium. This popular event is a humorous informational workshop regarding female sexuality. 

--- The East Tennessee Clean Fuels Coalition (ETCleanFuels.org), SPEAK (Students Promoting Environmental Action in Knoxville), and the Sierra Club will host a screening of "Revenge of the Electric Car" on Thursday, April 12 at 7:15 p.m. in the Hodges Library Auditorium on the University of Tennessee campus. The event is free and open to all UT students and members of the community. --- The UT Science Forum presents Justin M. Beaver, Computational Data Analytics Group, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, who will speak on "Addressing Challenges in Cyber Security Through Intelligent Computing" on Friday, April 13 from 12 noon to 1 p.m. The Science Forum is free and open to the public. --- Relay For Life at UT, taking place from 6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 13 and continuing until 6:00 a.m. Saturday, April 14, at Circle Park, will give students and staff the opportunity to fight back against cancer and help the American Cancer Society create a world with more birthdays. Participation in Relay For Life is part of the university’s partnership with the American Cancer Society’s Colleges Against Cancer initiative. --- The Campus Entertainment Board (CEB), a committee of the UT Central Program Council, invites you to attend "Headphone Disco: Silent Party," 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Friday, April 13, in Presidential Courtyard. Headphone Disco: Silent Party is a new musical movement which was featured at Bonnaroo music festival last year. It will be the official warm-up to Volapalooza. Just strap on your unique, two-channel wireless headphone and tune into either channel. Each channel will feature two different DJs showcasing two completely different musical styles, simultaneously. You can join the party or watch on the sideline as everyone jams to the music only they can hear. Come out and get pumped and in the mood for Volapalooza.



--- The UT College of Veterinary Medicine will hold its annual open house Saturday, April 14, from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The free event will take place, rain or shine, on the UT agricultural campus, located on Neyland Drive. Guests will learn about dog bite prevention and tour exhibits featuring small animal medicine, large animal medicine, community organizations, and pet rescue groups. The anatomy lab with various skeletons and plastinated specimen is always a crowd favorite. Canine parade of breeds and dog agility demonstrations are scheduled throughout the day. Guests can also enjoy learning about various cat breeds.

--- One-day workshop on Islam, "Teaching and Learning about Islam: Pedagogies and Perspectives," will be held April 14 at the Sarah Simpson Professional Development/Technology Center, 801 Tipton Ave. Attendance is free, but registration is required. The workshop is designed to give East Tennessee educators, and especially high school teachers, the tools they need to raise awareness about the beliefs, culture and history of Islam, and its interactions with diverse societies over time. Registration for the conference is open until April 10, or until all 50 available spaces have been filled. Refreshments and lunch will be served. --- The 100th Anniversary of Carnicus is right around the corner! All Campus Events (ACE) will be presenting the annual tradition this Saturday, April 14 at 7:00 p.m. in the Knoxville Civic Auditorium. --- UT Choral Spring Concert: Handel's Messiah: Parts One, Two and Three. Sunday, April 15 at 4:00 p.m. in AMB Auditorium. All are invited to join the UT Chamber Singers and Concert Choir in singing many of Handel's beloved arias and choruses, accompanied by the UT Chamber Orchestra. Outstanding vocalists from the UT School of Music will perform the solos. The concert is free. Carolers who own a Messiah music score are encouraged to bring it. A limited number of scores will be available for sale at the door for $20. Proceeds will benefit scholarships in the UT School of Music.

--- All UT students, faculty and staff are invited to attend the TN Governor's Innovation Conference (GIC), April 26-27, at the Downtown Sheraton in Nashville. Governor Bill Haslam and the State of Tennessee will host leaders from across the nation representing business, private capital and world-class research institutions to explore the latest in Innovation, entrepreneurship and venture capital investment that drives our economy. The normal price for GIC's two-day conference is just $150, but all UT students, faculty and staff can attend for a discounted price of $100 (use code GIC100 when registering and click “apply discount” next to the appropriate box on the registration form). --- Support Habitat for Humanity and get downright muddy doing it! What more could you ask for in a cause? The Habitat for Humanity Chapter at UTK will host a Mud Run on Sunday, April 29 at 2:00 p.m. This run is a gnarly 5k race through filthy mud pits and other fun obstacles with a team of five of your comrades! A few of the obstacles you will encounter on your voyage are: Slip N Down Muddy Hill, Bottoms Down Belly Crawl, Mud Tower, Muddy Fields Forever, Criss-Cross-Mud-Sauce, The Great Tire Mire, and others! The kind people at Deep Well Farm will be hosting the event at their lovely farm normally used for their Corn Maze, Pumpkin Patch, and Dead Man's Farm. Go to www.deepwellfarm.com to register.

--- The Campaign for Tennessee TAG (Thank-A-Giver) Day Celebration takes place Friday, April 20 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at various locations around campus. This is a fun and exciting volunteer opportunity for campus organizations. We need lots of student volunteers to "TAG" students, faculty, staff and visitors! What is "TAG"?  It's simply placing a Thank-A-Giver sticker on the shirt, jeans, backpack, hat of students, faculty, staff and visitors as they walk by, or simply giving them a sticker. On Friday, April 20, students can be volunteers around campus to TAG for hour-long shifts. There will be a volunteer meeting Tuesday, April 17 at 6 p.m. Please encourage your peers to participate! It's going to be lots of fun! --- Attention artists: The library wants to display your work. The Student Art in the Library contest awards a first prize of $300 and a second prize of $150. Submission deadline for the Fall 2012 contest is September 21. If you create any particularly inspired works this summer, keep in the mind the Student Art in the Library contest. The library is looking for two-dimensional works to be displayed in the exhibit area in 135 Hodges Library throughout the fall semester. More info at library.utk.edu/artinlibrary.

Ready for the World Events

--- This week, the International House will host India Week. Monday, April 9: Indian Movie Night, with a screening of the film "Dil Chahta Hai" (Hind&#299;: &#2342;&#2367;&#2354; &#2330;&#2366;&#2361;&#2340;&#2366; &#2361;&#2376;, English: The Heart Desires, but billed as Do Your Thing). The event will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Snacks and soft drinks will be provided. Tuesday, April 10: Indian Coffee House: Indian Cooking Demonstration and Henna Night. Do you want to know more about Indian cuisine? Native Indian students will teach how to make Veg cutlet, an Indian snack and Kheer (dessert). You can also get henna tattoo on your hands. The event will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Great Room at the I-House at no cost. Wednesday, April 11: Indian Culture Night. There will be cultural presentations, live musical performances, Classical and Bollywood dance performances, fashion show, delicious Indian food and much more. This event is being organized in collaboration!
  with Manthan (Indian Student Association) and IAA (Indian American Association). Tickets are on sale at I-House front desk and cost is only $5. Make sure to buy your ticket in advance. The event will take place from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Great Room at the I-House.

--- The Ready for the World Café will take a culinary journey to Africa at noon on Tuesday, April 10, with a menu boasting of the rich tradition and culture of the nation of Liberia. On the menu: ginger beer, fried plantains, eddo soup, stir-fried chicken with greens and rice, and papaya pie for dessert. Advance tickets are available in the Jessie Harris Building or at 974-6645. The cost is $12. The Ready for the World Café is located in the UT Visitors Center on Neyland Drive.
