JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
The University Christian Student Center (UCSC), sponsored by the
University Church of Christ, is seeking to fill the open full-time
campus minister position. The UCSC has a well-established 30-year
heritage on the Murray State University campus and in the community.
Murray State University, located in Murray, KY, has an enrollment of
10,000 students and is one of Kentucky’s regional universities
maintaining a strong academic reputation. Murray (Calloway County),
Kentucky has a population of about 37,000 and is 15 miles west of the
Land-Between-the-Lakes National Recreation Area.
QUALIFICATIONS/CREDENTIALS:
A Bachelor’s Degree in Bible, Ministry or a major that would be
supportive of ministry (e.g., Counseling, Education) and/or Master’s
Degree in similar degree. A minimum of 3 years of campus ministry
experience required (years of experience may be replaced with other
ministry leadership and/or higher education experience). Applicant
must be married and
have counseling experience or knowledge of counseling resources and
best practices. Strong Biblical knowledge is also required. In
addition, proficiency in technology tools
to connect with college students is required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The individual that fills the UCSC Campus Minister’s position will be
required to have a comprehensive set of skills and a broad range of
experiences to continue the heritage of a strong spiritual presence on

The University Christian Student Center (UCSC), sponsored by the
University Church of Christ, has a 30-year heritage on the Murray
State University campus and in the community. The UCSC has built a
strong foundation and a very positive reputation on the MSU campus.
The UCSC has a very nice on-campus house with a campus minister’s
office, a fellowship hall and kitchen, study rooms, housing for male
student leaders, and parking for UCSC students. The UCSC is fortunate
to also have very involved planning committee, supportive alumni with
a very active alumni association.
Murray State University, located in Murray, KY, has an enrollment of
10,000 students and is one of Kentucky’s regional universities
offering both undergraduate and graduate degrees. Murray State
maintains a strong academic reputation and is Kentucky’s only public
university to be listed in the U.S. News & World Report top tier for
the past 20 consecutive years.
Murray (Calloway County), Kentucky has a population of about 37,000
and is located 15 miles west of the Land-Between-the-Lakes National
Recreation Area, which offers fishing, boating, swimming, camping,
mountain biking and a large wildlife population. In addition, Murray
is fortunate to have two outstanding school systems: Murray City
Schools and Calloway County Schools.
Credentials and Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree in Bible, Ministry or a major that would be
supportive of ministry (e.g., Counseling, Education) and/or Masters in
similar areas.
• Married (with supportive wife).
• Minimum of 3 years campus ministry experience or similar university
experience. Years of experience may be replaced with other ministry
leadership and/or higher education experience.
• Proficiency with technology tools to connect with college students
is required.
• Counseling experience or knowledge of counseling resources and best practices.
Job Responsibilities
Spiritual Leadership:
• Strong Bible student to be able to teach Bible classes, conduct
Bible studies, and encourage spiritual growth among the students
• Provide mentoring, advising, and guidance for university students
• Train student leaders in leadership and outreach
Leadership:
• Work closely with UCSC Planning Committee, student leaders, student
members, and church volunteers to plan activities and events to
include but not limited to: weekly devotionals, retreats, mission
trips, and special events.
• Work closely with church staff and leaders
• Work with the UCSC Alumni Association – as an active member
• Be involved with students in their environments (e.g., concerts,
games, special events)
• Create a vision of growth for the UCSC
Involvement and Outreach:
• Become known on MSU campus (e.g., volunteer, engage in campus activities)
• Work closely with regional youth ministers and congregations to
actively encourage future MSU students to attend and participate in
UCSC activities
• Supportive of International students and missions
• Participate in Small Group Ministry/Life Groups
• Be a member of the MSU Campus Ministry Association
Management:
• Monitor and oversee upkeep of UCSC facilities
• Be fiscally responsible for creating and maintaining a UCSC budget
Personal Connection:
• Maintain office hours at UCSC
• Active member of the University Church of Christ
• Preach on a few occasions, primarily as the service relates to
university activities
• Live within reasonable distance from UCSC
Personal Attributes:
• Evangelistic

• Outgoing and excellent interpersonal skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Strong organizational and planning skills
• Self-motivated, self-disciplined, strong-work ethic
• Able to relate to students weaknesses and struggles
• Love of singing in campus ministry
• Willing to accept guidance in areas of leadership, working with
students, managing UCSC
