MAXIMA Summer REU in Interdisciplinary Mathematics
The Institute for Mathematics and its Applications (IMA) and the
Macalester College Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer
Science announce a six-week (June 18 - July 27, 2012) REU in applied
mathematics. The program will be hosted at the IMA facilities at the
Twin Cities campus of the University of
Minnesota (UMN).
Students will work on open research problems posed by UMN researchers
in computer science and engineering. Research teams will be advised by
Macalester faculty. Students will also collaborate with IMA
postdoctoral fellows. Topics for Summer 2012 are drawn from optics,
robotics, and social computing. The various projects employ techniques
from mathematics, statistics, and computer science.
Full details, including descriptions from two previous summers, can be
found at: http://www.ima.umn.edu/reu
The online application is due March 1, 2012. This program is sponsored
by a 3-year NSF grant and by the IMA. Questions are welcomed at
