While the fall semester may be ending and break on the horizon, we are gearing up for new exhibits and lectures here at the Hunter, some of which I thought you might like to learn about in planning for your spring.
First, opening December 17 is Dorothea Lange’s America. Open through April, this exhibit explores Dorothea Lange’s photography and also features some work by her contemporaries such as Walker Evans and Ben Shahn. Simultaneous to this show and currently on view New On View presents many of the Hunter’s latest acquisitions including pieces by Thornton Dial, Sally Mann, William Christenberry and Alison Saar. And later in the spring we will present Good Design: Stories from Herman Miller and Synchrony: Contemporary Video Work which is being collaboratively curated with Philip Lewis, Assistant Professor of Photo and Media Art at UTC.
Upcoming lectures and programs that may interest you include
* Thursday January 5, 6 p.m. talk by artist Kay Walkingstick
* Thursday January 26, 6 p.m. talk about Dorothea Lange by Chief Curator Ellen Simak and UTC History Professor Andrea Becksvoort
* Thursday February 2, 6 p.m. talk by Chief Curator of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture Jackie Serwer
* Thursday February 23, 6 p.m. Artist Pecha Kucha event which features presentation opportunities for you and your students

We would like to encourage you to visit this show as well as our permanent collection galleries. We are once again proud to offer a discounted rate of $10 for student passes– a full year pass available to all students with a university ID. You are welcome to bring your class through on your own or to request assistance from museum staff. Either way, we request that you register your class with us in advance of your visit so we can be certain to best accommodate you and your space needs. To do this, please contact me at (423) 752-2053 or [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> and I can take care of scheduling your visit or answering any questions or additional requests you might have.
Best wishes for the remainder of the semester.
