--- Bet you never thought you could save lives just by giving a spit. All it takes to sign up for the Be The Match registry, and potentially save the life of a blood cancer patient, is a cheek swab. Visit the Panhellenic Building Lobby, Monday, Nov. 7 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to give a spit and potentially save a life! A bone marrow transplant can save the lives of people battling leukemia, lymphoma, and other blood cancers. Only 4 out of 10 patients will receive the transplant they need. --- The UT College of Law Speaker Series Board and the ACLU of Tennessee are hosting a forum entitled “Demand Your Rights: Protecting Online Privacy and Speech” from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. tonight in Room 132 of the UT College of Law. The program will focus on government access to online information, protecting one’s privacy in the digital age, and laws that impede free speech on the internet, including Tennessee’s new broad “Offensive Images” law. The panel will feature discussions by Allie Bohm, an expert in privacy, speech, and technology as well as Professor Glenn Reynolds, the Beauchamp Brogan Distinguished Professor of Law at the University of Tennessee and widely read political blogger at Instapundit.

--- Writers in the Library will feature poet Melissa Range, 7:00 p.m. tonight in Hodges Library Auditorium. Her book Horse and Rider won the 2010 Walt McDonald First-Book Series Prize in Poetry.

--- The College Democrats' next meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. tonight in HSS room 104. Free and open to the public.

--- The Graduate Student Senate will hold its first-ever Graduate Student Town Hall, noon tomorrow in 132 College of Law Building. Graduate students from all programs are invited to have a candid conversation with GSS, the Graduate School, and the Office of the Dean of Students. --- Journalism in Crisis?, a film/discussion series, continues with a screening of "The September Issue," a documentary chronicling Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour’s preparations for the 2007 fall-fashion issue, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8 in the Hodges Library Auditorium. Free and open to the public.

--- Nourish International meeting, 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, in HSS room 55. Nourish International is a new student organization with goals to end poverty around the world. The group is currently working on creating a 5k walk/run with Habitat for Humanity. Free and open to the public.

--- The “Aspire to Be Financially Savvy” workshop for female students will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 9 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the UC Crest Room, presented by the UT Alumni Association Women’s Council. Successful UTK Alumnae will help teach students how to create a budget, manage a bank account, get control of credit cards, establish good credit, apply for that first loan and, yes, plan for retirement through employer 401k savings programs. --- Join Alpha Epsilon Delta Pre-Health Honor Society on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 6:30 p.m. in Walters Life Sciences M307, for a presentation on medical school, the application process, resume builders, interview tips, and what it is like to be a student in medical school. --- Psi Chi presents a program on disaster mental health and other volunteering opportunities available through the American Red Cross, Thursday, Nov. 10 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in Austin Peay Room 311C. This meeting will host Mary Beth Birge, director of Disaster Mental Health from the American Red Cross in Knoxville. Everyone interested in any aspect of the American Red Cross is welcome and encouraged to attend the meeting.

--- The UT student chapter of Ducks Unlimited will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, in UC 225. The group will discuss their upcoming fundraiser on Saturday, Nov. 12. --- The UT chapters of the Advertising Club, the Public Relations Student Society of America, the Communications Studies Club, and the American Marketing Association will meet from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11, in the UC Hermitage Room to host a roundtable discussion on integrated marketing communications. Representatives from the Knoxville News Sentinel, M3 Creative, and RIVR Media will be speaking about their careers in advertising, public relations, marketing, research, graphic design, media, and more. Light refreshments will be served. Free and open to the public.

--- The UT full-time MBA program will host an open house session for prospective MBA candidates on Tuesday, November 15. The 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. session will be held in Room 402 of the Haslam Business Building. Registration will be from 5:45 to 6:00 p.m. Representatives of the seventeen-month program will present information on the structure of its integrated, team-based curriculum, the application/admissions process, financial aid, and career opportunities. Admission is free, and pre-registration is not required. Parking is available in the UC parking garage. Participants may bring their parking ticket to the information session for validation. --- The 24th Annual Orange and Blue Blood Drive is next week, and Medic Regional Blood Center is calling on all students to give blood and help Tennessee beat Kentucky! Last year Kentucky fans won this competition. We can't let them win again!

Students, faculty and staff who donate blood between November 14-18 will receive a free T-shirt, a free quarter-pound Thickburger from Hardees, a free cholesterol screening, and will be entered into a raffle to win two skybox tickets and two press passes to the UT-Vanderbilt football game on November 19.

The blood collected during this competition will help ensure adequate inventory for area hospitals throughout the holiday season when donations are typically at their lowest. --- DOE Scholars Program –- This summer internship offers stipends of up to $650 per week depending on academic status to undergraduates, graduate students and post grads. Majors accepted include engineering, physical sciences, environmental sciences, computer science and information technology, physics, business, policy, program management, mathematics, statistics, safety and health, accounting and finance, law, communications and other related discipline areas. --- CURENT Research Experience for Undergraduates: The NSF-DOE Engineering Research Center for Ultra-wide-area Resilient Electric Energy Transmission Networks offers opportunities to work on research topics related to the interconnected electric power grid. Projects will investigate power systems, power electronics and drives, alternative energy sources, energy storage, control and communication, power transmission, power market structures, as well as the social impact of energy policy.  The REU program pays each student $4,000 for 8-10 weeks of research, and campus housing is provided at no cost.  Application deadline: Feb. 10, 2012. This Week in SGA

--- The Academic Affairs committee of UTK SGA proudly presents the annual Vol Walk of Life! Spend 15 minutes at a fun and interactive learning experience based on The Game of Life. Find out about campus resources that can help you succeed! There will be free food from Volunteer Dining and great door prizes, free merchandise from the UT Book & Supply Store, signed UT memorabilia, and much more! The first 100 students will receive a free T-shirt! Women’s Athletic Director, Joan Cronan, will be in attendance! The event will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 9 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the UC Crest & Ballrooms.
