Special

--- Enjoy a Study Break! Join your fellow students for a "Chill Out" study break from noon to 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, in the Commons in Hodges Library. UT Dining Services and Mayfield Dairy are providing the sweet treats. You also can complete your SAIS instructor evaluations while taking a break in the Commons.

It's UT's way to say thank you for filling out the online evaluations. If you've not yet completed your evaluations, visit http://oira.utk.edu/sais/ and click on the link "Fall 2011 Semester Online Evaluations." The system closes as midnight, December 2.

If you have any questions, e-mail [log in to unmask] or call the SAIS office at (865) 974-4373.

Good News

--- UT student Buffalo chicken dip business wins Vol Court competition --- The lack of a favorite comfort food found only in their hometown spurred the launch of a new product idea by two UT Knoxville sophomores that took top honors at this semester's Vol Court pitch competition. Jake Rheude and Cedric Brown won $1,000 to invest in SummerSett Foods, a company that is creating and packaging a buffalo chicken dip for distribution nationwide. A $500 second-place prize was awarded to Christopher Bowland, a senior majoring in materials science engineering, who is developing a convenient way for students living off-campus to recycle their plastics, metals, and paper.

--- The student team that designed and built "Living Light," UT Knoxville's state-of-the-art, zero-energy house, has garnered another national accolade, this time for the effectiveness of its graphic design as well as its collaborative efforts with architecture and engineering. The American Institute of Graphic Artists, the professional association of design, introduced a new award category, "Making the Case," to this year's design competition. "Living Light" was one of nine entries selected from about sixty entries to receive the award.
