--- UT Knoxville public relations students raised awareness and approximately $500 in funds over the weekend for Tuesday's Children, a non-profit group that provides mental-health counseling, coping skills, and life management support to the survivors and affected family members of the September 11 attacks and other terrorist incidents around the world.

--- Retail Students Association meeting, 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, in Jessie Harris Building room 228. RSA welcomes all Retail and Consumer Science students and all other students interested in retail or fashion to attend. The group will discuss upcoming events for the semester and serve refreshments.
--- The campus is invited to a reception celebrating the botanical photography of Alan S. Heilman, a retired UT Knoxville professor. It is a new digital collection hosted by the UT Libraries. Images from the collection will be on display. The free event will begin at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow in the Jack E. Reese Galleria, John C. Hodges Library. Heilman's photography is a collection of more than one thousand photographs of trees, flowers, mosses, ferns, and other plants—mostly from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
--- The Society of Professional Journalists invites all students to "When Sports Scandals Break: An SPJ Sports Media Panel," 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, in the CCI Auditorium. WBIR sports reporter Kris Budden, ESPN Radio Knoxville's Wes Rucker, Knoxville News Sentinel sports editor Phil Kaplan, and The Sports Animal's Jimmy Hyams will discuss their experiences covering sports scandals. --- The Public Relations Student Society of America will hold a Twitter workshop, 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, in the Scripps Convergence Lab on the fourth floor of the Communications Building. --- Graduate school info session, "Gaining Admission Into Highly Competitive Graduate Programs," featuring Donald Asher, nationally known speaker and author, Wednesday, Sept. 14 in the UC Auditorium. --- This Thursday, Joseph "Rev. Run" Simmons will reveal the history behind hip-hop as well as parallels between religion and music. The event will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15 in the Cox Auditorium at the Alumni Memorial Building. The event is free to students, faculty, and staff and $10 for the general public. --- Screening of the documentary film "Budrus," 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, in Hodges Library auditorium. The film tells the story of a group of Palestinians and Israelis joining together to prevent the village of Budrus from being bisected by Israel's separation barrier. Question-and-answer period immediately following the screening. Free and open to the public.

--- The Emerging Leaders Class is a three credit-hour course taught every spring for sophomores and juniors interested in studying leadership theories, styles, and practices. The class also participates in an exchange trip where students visit peer institutions in another city in order to learn more about leadership programs and organizations on those campuses. --- The UT Student Bar Association will host the first Annual Bly Roll Race for Justice 5k and 1 mile fun walk on Friday, Sept. 16, at 7:30 p.m. on Neyland Drive. The race is being held in memory of Bly Roll, a member of the Class of 2012 who passed away last fall. All proceeds of the race will go to TAPIL to provide financial support for students pursuing work opportunities in public interest work.

Ready for the World Events
--- Renowned artist Willie Cole, who transforms ordinary objects like shoes and irons into sculptures and whose works have been exhibited at venues including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and the Whitney Museum of American Art, will visit campus on Sept. 15 and 16.
Cole's visit is underwritten by a grant from UT's Ready for the World initiative and the support of the UT School of Art.
Students, staff and faculty and the public are invited to meet Cole on Sept. 15 during a free luncheon at the Black Cultural Center. Free refreshments will be provided at the event, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
At 7 p.m., Cole will give a slide presentation about his artwork in Room 109 of the Art and Architecture Building. This event is also free and open to the public.

Knoxville Connection
--- Girls on the Run is a nonprofit after-school running/self esteem building program for girls ages 8-14. The fall season will begin the week of Sept. 12 and volunteer coaches are needed. All coaches will be trained and provided a curriculum. Training will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. tonight. The program seeks dependable, energetic volunteers that enjoy working with young girls. You do not have to be a runner to be a coach.
