Dear Math Honors Students,
Rebudgeting is finished and we have enough funds to provide scholarships
of $4500-5000 for the year. Today I'll be sending out paperwork for $2500
scholarships for the fall semester. Since we may be adding students at the
end of summer and end of fall semester, I won't know the exact amount for
spring semester--basically I'll be dividing what's left equally among all
students--but I will limit any new students for spring so that
scholarships aren't less than $2000. Keep in mind that the same
requirements must be met to continue receiving the scholarship (GPA,
advising/enrollment, mentoring, attending at least 3 JC's or other talks,
and, for rising seniors, making good progress on an honors thesis by the
end of fall semester). There won't be a formal assessment process next
year, so you don't need to worry about that. If your scholarship doesn't
show up in your account by August 10, then let me know.
One more note for rising seniors: just a reminder that you should enroll
in 497 both semesters next year (unless you took 497 earlier), and
according to the current catalog you need to enroll in3 thesis credits
(Math 498) before you graduate. I strongly suggest that you run DARS
before fall semester to make sure everything is in order, and let me know
if you have any questions. Note that you may use any catalog year since
you arrived here at UTK, and so you can "shop" for one that makes it
easiest for you to fill the requirements.
Have a great summer!
