Dear colleagues, dear students,
this is our second and general announcement of the eighth
YOUNG MATHEMATICIANS CONFERENCE
at The Ohio State University
August 19^th - 21^st , 2011 (Fri-Sun)
Information about this year's conference can be found at

-------- Please forward this announcement to all interested. --------
ABOUT YMC 2011
YMC is an annual conference for undergraduate research in mathematics to
which students involved in REUs and similar programs around the country
are invited with full support in order to present their research in
talks and with posters and interact with peer and senior participants.
Invitations to YMC are competitive due to limited space and budget.
(Last year we had 180 students applying for 135 projects but could
select only about 70 students to present 56 projects). Partial support
is also available to accompanying mentors.
APPLICATIONS
APPLICATIONS ARE NOW OPEN
In order to apply link to http://www.ymc.osu.edu/2011/apply.php
<http://www.ymc.osu.edu/2011/apply.php> and carefully follow all
instructions. Applicants are also strongly recommended to read the
applicant resources in order to improve their submitted abstracts. The
deadline for applications is
Monday July 25^th 4:00pm EDT
The review of applications by a 20+member panel of mathematics faculty
will start immediately after this deadline. We expect to have decisions
on the bulk of invitations by the end of the same week.
SPECIAL EVENTS
Besides the student presentations, we are delighted to have the
following distinguished speakers come to YMC 2011 and deliver the
plenary lectures:
Robert Ghrist /(University of Pennsylvania)/
Dan Margalit /(Georgia Tech University)/
Monica Visan /(UCLA)/
As in previous years we will have our /"Graduate School Orientation"/
event with invited representatives from several different US graduate
programs in mathematics (this year's schools include Northwestern,
Oregon State, Nebraska, OSU with more to come). At this popular venue
questions ranging from choices of schools, nuts and bolts of
applications, and what life is like as a grad student are discussed.
We also plan to conduct again our /Outstanding Presentation Competition
/ this year, and, as usual, will provide as many opportunities as
possible for interaction between junior and senior conference participants.

We ask you to forward this announcement to your students as well as any
colleagues of yours who are involved in undergraduate research. You can
