Position Overview
The School of Information Management, Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand seeks to appoint a Professor of Library and Information Management to lead the development of one of the top Library and Information Management programmes in Australasia and enhance the School's international reputation.
The School of Information Management offers the only post graduate taught Master's programme in Information Studies (MIS) in New Zealand and as such it holds a special place nationally. Located in downtown Wellington, it is in close proximity to Parliament, the National Library, the National Archives and Te Papa Museum.
This role is a great opportunity for a person with energy, ideas, and academic credibility to further develop a well established teaching programme, research and scholarship. A proven track-record in high quality research and in attracting and managing research funding is expected. Candidates should also have demonstrated academic leadership in teaching, including the mentoring of junior staff, and successful supervision of postgraduate and PhD students. Evidence of excellent quality teaching at the postgraduate levels will be highly valued. A capacity to extend the School's interface with relevant professional and practitioner communities will be required.
The appointee must be a leading and active researcher and be committed to playing a research leadership role in the School by contributing to existing and emerging research themes in Library and Information Management, and building on and strengthening existing capabilities in the School. The appointee will also be expected to contribute to the School administration at senior level and assist the Head of School in the management of the relevant programme and staff administration.
Professorial candidates should have a PhD and substantial and relevant academic experience.
