Please find attached a flyer for a summer REU project in Mathematical
Biology at Georgia Tech. If it's possible to post this information
in your department or otherwise distribute it to interested students,
that would be greatly appreciated.
Apologies for the short notice, but the current GT Math REU application
deadline is *** MARCH 16 ***.
Some addition information is included below, and more details including
short project descriptions are available online:
www.math.gatech.edu/~heitsch/reu.html
Students who participate in the REU will join a multi-disciplinary GT
research group of faculty and students from mathematics, biology, and
computer science focusing on cutting-edge problems in RNA structure
prediction. We offer REU students valuable research experience in
this exciting interdiscplinary field, with a particular emphasis on
learning about new directions in applicable mathematics.
Prerequisites: Mathematics students should have taken at least two
proof-based math courses (eg. abstract algebra, number theory, analysis,
topology). Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the REU projects,
some programming experience is also highly encouraged. We also welcome
applications from students with less formal mathematics training but a
correspondingly rigorous background in computer science (the equivalent
of at least two project-based CS classes). All relevant biology will be
presented during the early weeks of the project.
Thank you for your time and attention!
Sincerely,
Christine Heitsch
