--- Husband and wife poets William Pitt Root and Pamela Uschuk will read from their work at Writers in the Library, 7 p.m. tonight in the Hodges Library auditorium. --- William Bass, the world-renowned forensic anthropologist and founder of the UT Body Farm, will speak about "Four Deadly Cases," 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, at the Cox Auditorium in the Alumni Memorial Building. The speech will cover four of Dr. Bass' most important and interesting cases. With a UT ID, tickets are $3. General admission tickets will be $10. --- The UT chapter of Alpha Epsilon Delta premedical student honor society is hosting Dr. David Stockton from UT Medical Center, 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, in AMB 27. He will speak on the subject of Wilderness Medicine, the emerging field of providing emergency health care in rough environments using limited resources. Questions? --- Former Congressman Zach Wamp will talk about "Balancing Limited Government and Necessary Investments" on Friday, Feb. 11, at a lunch lecture sponsored by the Baker Center. The event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Toyota Auditorium at the Baker Center. Tickets $15, reservations are required by Wednesday, Feb. 9. --- The TeamVOLS annual "Spaghetti for Service" lunch and dinner fundraisers for Alternative Spring Break are coming up Feb. 21 and 24. Buy your $5 ticket from any trip participant and you will get ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT Spaghetti, break, drink, salad and dessert. All funds go to support community service opportunity for UT students.

--- The 16th annual Dance Marathon fundraiser for East Tennessee Children's Hospital, sponsored by the TeamVOLS Volunteer Center, will be held Feb. 25-26 at TRECS. Sign up today to help stop cancer.

--- The Marco Institute for Medieval and Renaissance Studies is holding its first undergraduate conference in Medieval and Renaissance Studies. The event is set for Friday, April 8. The theme for the conference is "Mysticism, Heresy, and Witchcraft," but papers addressing any topic within the areas of Medieval and Renaissance Studies are gladly welcomed. The conference is open to undergraduate students throughout North America. Those interested in participating in this conference should e-mail a short abstract (200 words) for a paper of 15-20 minutes (7-8 pages) to conference organizer Jenny Bledsoe at [log in to unmask] by Friday, Feb. 18. Applicants will be notified of acceptance by Monday, Feb. 28.

--- UT Honors Ambassadors help recruit top academic students to the UT Chancellor's Honors program.  Once you are a rising honors sophomore, you can apply to speak at Alumni Network parties, assist with Honors Invitationals, host prospective Honors student tours, work with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, and more. Ready for the World Events

--- Ever thought of spending a semester or year in Hawaii, Alaska, California or another part of the country? National Student Exchange (NSE) is a domestic exchange program through which students can study away from a semester or an academic year at another university in the U.S., U.S. territories such as Guam and Puerto Rico, and Canada. Exchanging with this program allows students to experience a different cultural environment and to take courses in areas of specialization that might not be offered at their home university. Deadline for application is Friday, Feb. 25 for fall 2011, spring 2012, or academic year 2011-12. --- This is German Culture Week at the I-House. Today you can experience a German cooking demonstration. A native German instructor will teach you how to make German cookies at the I-House Great Room from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Cost for Students: $2; Staff & Faculty: $3; Community: $4; I-House club member: FREE. Tuesday, Feb. 8, is German Movie Night. The I-House will screen the German movie "Keinohrhasen: Rabbit Without Ears" in the Study Room from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Snacks will be provided. Free and open to thte public. Wednesday, Feb. 9, is German Culture Night and will feature authentic and delicious German cuisine, presentations on different aspects of German culture from native German and American students who have been abroad there and more. --- Former Ambassador Thomas Graham Jr., a world-renowned authority on nuclear nonproliferation, will discuss the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) in the larger context of strategic arms control during a luncheon lecture on Feb. 8. Sponsored by the Baker Center, the event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Toyota Auditorium at the Baker Center. The event will also be webcast live at http://tinyurl.com/4z5c9yf.

--- UT students, faculty and staff are being sought to participate in the 2011 English Summer Camp at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China, June 22 through July 15. This is the fifth year for the camp -- the largest of its kind in the world -- where 3,200 freshman Chinese students will take part in an intensive three-week English learning experience. Tsinghua University requires all of its students to be proficient in conversational English by the time they graduate. This is the fourth year UT has been invited to participate with a select group of other colleges and universities from the U.S., Australia and the United Kingdom. UT's Center for International Education administers this cross-cultural program which provides an opportunity for UT faculty, staff and students to travel to China and immerse themselves in the culture. Students interested in being part of UT's group at this year's summer camp must fill out applications that are forwarded to Tsinghua University offici!
