The graduate School of Information Studies (ÉSIS) at the University of Ottawa, Canada, invites applications for TWO full-time tenure-track positions in library and information science at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Appointment will be for July 1, 2011, and salary will be in accordance with the Collective Agreement of the Association of Professors of the University of Ottawa.

The University of Ottawa holds an international reputation for excellence in advanced research and learning.  It is located in Canada's National Capital Region - an area of beauty and cultural diversity. The School offers a Master's of Information Studies (MIS) and a Graduate Certificate in Information Studies (GCIS).  Further information about the School can be found at www.sis.uottawa.ca.

The School is seeking TWO candidates, one in each of the following areas of specialization:
. Knowledge organization and representation
. Data curation and digital repositories; information behaviour; knowledge discovery; and/or social informatics

Qualifications

. Candidates must have a PhD in a relevant field by the time of appointment; an MLIS (or equivalent) and relevant professional experience will be an asset.
. Candidates will be expected to teach courses in at least one of the core areas in the ÉSIS MIS program, as well as to offer advanced graduate elective courses in their areas of expertise.
. Successful applicants will have a demonstrated potential for high scholarly impact and be able to teach in one of Canada's two official languages (English or French), with a solid working knowledge of the other (i.e., be able to interact with students and colleagues).
. Candidates will have an established record of research and publications.
. Experience or demonstrated ability in design and delivery of courses in a variety of formats, including distance learning modes, is highly desirable.
Please send a letter of intent, curriculum vitae and three confidential letters of reference (sent directly by the referees) by March 3, 2011, to:

While the University of Ottawa values all applications received, only those candidates short-listed for further consideration will be contacted. Interviews will ideally take place in late March 2011.

All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority. Equity is a University of Ottawa policy; women, Aboriginal peoples, members of visible minorities and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

The University of Ottawa is proud of its 160-year tradition of bilingualism. Through its Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute, the University provides training to staff members and to their spouses in their second official language. At the time of tenure, professors are expected to have the ability to function in a bilingual setting and teach in both official languages.
