Librarians’ Tour to Germany
May 23-June 2, 2011
The University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS) is pleased to announce its Librarians’ Tour to Germany. Join us to experience Germany through its libraries, archives, historic sites and scenery. Our small group will spend the first few days in Mainz, with a focus on Gutenberg and the city's relationship with printing; we'll travel on to Stuttgart, with its rich cultural offerings; spend a day in Tübingen during its book festival, and finish up in Munich, where we’ll visit the Bavarian State Library and take day trips to Nuremburg and King Ludwig II’s castles in the Bavarian Alps. While the trip has a focus on print culture history, there will also be free time for exploring, shopping, and relaxing. A more detailed itinerary and registration form may be found at http://www.slis.wisc.edu/germany.htm
The registration fee is $2095 (plus airfare), which includes accommodations, all breakfasts and five dinners, transportation within Germany, entry fees for group excursions, non-credit instructional fees, and gratuities, based on double occupancy. A limited number of single rooms are available for a supplemental cost of $445.
The program is open to all and may be taken for an optional two hours of graduate credit from SLIS. (Students registering for graduate credit will be billed separately for approximately an additional $200 for tuition.)
Tour leaders: Meredith Lowe, Outreach Specialist, UW-Madison SLIS, and Jane Pearlmutter, Associate Director, UW-Madison SLIS. Both Meredith and Jane have fond memories of their undergraduate days in Germany (several decades apart), as well as more recent trips, and are excited to be returning.
